Thoughts on the whole Troi/Worf/Dax/Bashir progression?

I like Jadzia/Julian (and I used to like it ever more). I never liked Julian/Ezri.

Julian/Ezri felt like "the poor sap got dumped for a Ferengi, so we need to give him something".

Maybe. For me, this takes away what I like about Jadzia/Julian (both platonic and romantic): Julian seeing Jadzia as Jadzian first and Dax second, as an individual and not just a Dax host.

Ezri herself was a mistake. The idea of a Trill driven neurotic from an ill-advised Joining was too good to waste on one season. Half a season, really, since the final arc was about the war.

Let's be honest. Trek writers of the Berman era had a difficult time ever writing romantic relationships that worked. They could write one night stands. But actual, long-term, successful relationships? Didn't happen much. Really, the only ones that I can think of that seem authentic to me are Miles/Keiko and Worf/Dax.

Rom was not a typical Ferengi. Likes engineering, not business. Union leader.

Troi and Worf's interactions do remind me Disney's version of "Beauty and the Beast," so I get why it could work. But with her history with Riker, I can't see her ending up with anybody else.
I could never see Jadzia returning Julian's feelings, even though Ezri said it would've happened had Worf not come along. Ezri/Bashir made sense to me, but I also think as that she continues to get used to Dax, she'll move on to greater things and leave Bashir behind (as she dud in the books).

Worf and Dax works well enough for me, and I'm used to it. But I understand why some people found it contrived.

I suspect that the writers chose longterm romances based on which pairing could get the most different storylines. Hooking up Dax with Worf offered cultire clashes, Klingon romance, opposing personalities, and angst material from Worf. Hooking her up with Bashier wouldn't have given them nearly as much to work with.

It was maybe lightning in a bottle over on "Voyager," with Paris/Torres being good for story-milking material while the characters were genuinely perfect for each other.

Rom was not a typical Ferengi. Likes engineering, not business. Union leader.

Rom was also quite unlike his brother in that he gained a lot during those 7 seasons and he got to keep those gains.

At some point during the first few seasons, he gained about 60 IQ points, possibly more.

He gained a girl which he married.

Finally he gained the position of Grand Nagus.

At the end of the series, Quark is basically left in the same spot he started out at. (The only difference his character being more developed).
