Think we might see the Prodigy characters on Lower Decks?

With the show cancelled they could in theory do a episode were the two casts meets or even a single character or something else along those lines. They could give the show a means of bringing closure much how X-Files brought back The Lone Gunmen after their show got axed for what amounted to a series final episode.

Only if no one picks it up. Last word was it's still being shopped but with the strikes that could slow down since money will be a concern.

The biggest obstacle at the moment is that Lower Decks is set a few years prior to Prodigy, which makes any sort of crossover a bit difficult to pull off.

If CBS can't sell the show to someone else, they may just declare it null and void (or non-canon, to us folks) and they wouldn't be able to use the characters in another Trek series for legal purposes.

As it's already been broadcast I very much doubt it.

It doesn't matter that it's already been broadcast. CBS/Paramount removed it from P+ and have the authority to declare it non-canon and never use elements from it again if they chose to, or if they were legally bound not to.

Absolutely. They can declare it non cannon, an alternate universe or a vivid dream after eating cheese should they wish to. It's entirely up to them.
or if they were legally bound not to.
They can't scrap it and claim a tax write off - it's already been released to the market. There is no legal impediment to using it or parts thereof.

Again, that doesn't matter. I am aware that DVDs/BD's exist of season 1. CBS can still declare that nothing from the show be used in a future Trek production, especially if the stipulations of the tax write off makes this clear. From what I understand (and I could be wrong) is that if season 2 isn't sold to Netflix or whoever and subsequently never broadcast, the show is considered to be off-limits from any further production.

That would them putting it in the vault. They would not legally binded not use elements. It just means if they used the characters they would likely have to pay the writer who invented the character. Kind of like how we got Tom Paris because they didn't want to pay the writer or writers that created Nick Lacarno.

Prodigy is aimed at children. Lower Decks very much isn't, with lots of adult, very kid-inappropriate jokes.

That's probably the biggest issue.

I don't think Prodigy has ever been referenced in any other shows so it won't change much. I imagine there aren't any legal barriers to using Voyager characters that have appeared like Janeway again as long as they don't mention anything Prodigy-specific.

It will admit that it would be interesting to see Boimler and Mariner would look like in CGI, though. But someone could probably do that with a CGI sprite creator.
