The X-Files : Season X (Spoilers!)

With the premiere a little over a week away (Jan. 24), I thought it was time to start a proper thread for the new season.

Duchovny and Anderson are out in force promoting the new episodes, with Anderson appearing on the Talk yesterday and Corden's show tonight and both Duchovny & Anderson showing up on Jimmy Kimmel Tuesday night.

Personally, I can't wait to see these new episodes. New episodes written & directed by Chris Carter, Glen Morgan and James Wong, but also a rare episode by the brilliant Darin Morgan! With the exception of Vince Gilligan's absence (Better Call Saul season two, you better be worth it!), I can't imagine a better all-star writers' room for this show.

The X-Files is my favorite TV show of all time. I hope this mini-season does well in the ratings (and leads to more X-Files in the future -- in any form or medium) but it doesn't matter much to me. These six episodes are an unexpected and amazing gift that I never imagined would exist. If six is all we get, I'm more than fine with that.

Anyone want to place predictions for the new season? Ratings-wise? Worst episode? Best episode*?

*My best episode pick has to be "Mulder and Scully meet the Were-Monster," because Darin Morgan is a mad genius.:)

I liked the mythology episodes with the alien conspiracy. Too bad there was no plan and nothing came of them but they were riveting to watch at the time. I also liked the light-hearted episodes like the one with Burt Reynolds.

I'm looking forward to the new season. Nice way to title the thread by the way. Too bad it's only 6 episodes instead of the 12 they wanted to do. Maybe next time.

How soon 'til these appear on Netflix?

I hope they resolve the alien conspiracy once and for all. The plan for this miniseries is for the first and last episodes to be mythology/conspiracy stories, but for all the rest to be "monster of the week" episodes.

My hope is that this brings some finality to the series and its characters. I'm very excited to see it back.

I'm looking forward to this but I still wonder how they get fans up to speed on what's happening. When you have 9 seasons of mythology mixed with standalones, that's a lot to take in. I hope this mini series is good and it will be nice to see Mulder and Scully again.

This. I have been a huge fan of the show for years and I am hoping for some nice closure (the second movie was so bad...).

I am also looking forward for some monster-of-the-week episodes. :techman:

Well, stuff doesn't pop up on US Netflix until after it's on DVD\Blu-Ray, so it'll be a while.
I'm curious how the new conspiracy story will tie into original, because it sounds like it's a new arc.

You'll have to wait on that. There's supposed to be somewhat of a cliff hanger.

Honestly not really looking forward to these all that much.

And all I can say to that is... no soup for you!

A quote from it:

“The writers were smart to keep [the characters’] relationship fluctuating. But the foundation is that they care about each other so much. They’re the love of each other’s life.”

From Scully’s mouth, fans.

Too little, too late.

At the time, there were a bunch of theories amongst fans about when they first got romantically involved or conceived William.

The one I remember most clearly was that they became more than friends/partners after their New Year's kiss in "Millenium," in season seven.

The characters have been together for quite a long time. Since at least Season 6. They just never explicitly said it.

Yep. Don't have an issue with that, just how they're treating shippers. Basically telling us to accept the break up and that we don't know what's good for us.

Yea I remember that. I thought it was in 'Per Manum' back in the day. The IVF failed and they had tried the old fashioned way. Turns out they conceived him in 'All Things', according to Gillian.

That's interesting. I'd never heard the "all things" interpretation -- though Anderson's rationale would be naturally biased toward that particular episode for obvious reasons.;)

I think I remember "Per Manum" being suggested elsewhere, so that may be one of the more popular choices.

Just one week from tonight!

:)

Ratings will be huge for the first because it's on after football.... zzzzzz.... but after that I think the ratings won't be nearly as high as people are thinking.

This might be an on demand show for me because it's on during Supergirl. Reading the reviews for X-files season ten are making me a little nervous. I'll still watch it and hope it's good but you might be right on the ratings thing.

The AV Club collectively gave the first three episodes a B+. Apparently the pilot is a bit weak, the second episode is very good, and the third -- penned by Darin Morgan -- is an instant classic. I've been the most excited for the Morgan episode, so that's good news.

That's good news. I read Hollywood Reporter and I forget the other one who were both disappointed with the premiere episode.

I'm looking forward to this, but I probably won't see it until home video. I've been watching the series with my girlfriend (she had never seen it) and we are only just wrapping up season two. A lot more to go! I had forgotten how good the early seasons were.
