The X-Files : Season X (Spoilers!)

The AV Club collectively gave the first three episodes a B+. Apparently the pilot is a bit weak, the second episode is very good, and the third -- penned by Darin Morgan -- is an instant classic. I've been the most excited for the Morgan episode, so that's good news.

That's not shocking, look at who wrote the season premiere.

For the UKers, apparently it'll be aired in February on one of the Five channels (Not sure yet if it's Channel 5, 5* or 5 USA though). I've only seen the advert on the normal Channel 5 so far though)

Shame the Beeb couldn't try and buy it, it would have been a good hurrah for BBC II!.

I think I'll go with my first option given it's on Five.

I'm looking forward to this, but I probably won't see it until home video. I've been watching the series with my girlfriend (she had never seen it) and we are only just wrapping up season two. A lot more to go! I had forgotten how good the early seasons were.

Seeing the Skyland Mountain stuff in the Duane Barry two-parter from season two, it always blows me away. The footage and stunts on top of the lift-car are incredible -- especially considering that they were produced on a TV budget in the early nineties.

The X-Files production team in the Vancouver days of the show were miracle workers.

That two-parter was great.

What's really impressed me this time around, though, has been the standalone episodes. Sure, there are some duds, but there are a lot of really fantastic and creepy hours, too. Technically, the show is always first rate. They really knew where to put a camera and where (not) to put a light in a way that a lot of other TV shows (especially during this period) didn't.

That was movie quality. I don't think the series ever topped that (Even in Fight the Future) and it made that two parter really really special.

That's interesting. I'd never heard the "all things" interpretation -- though Anderson's rationale would be naturally biased toward that particular episode for obvious reasons.;)

I think I remember "Per Manum" being suggested elsewhere, so that may be one of the more popular choices.

Just one week from tonight!

:)

Actually she was told about it.

Here's the snippet via Twitter, thanks to philoxenia posting it.

I was thinking that back in the day! I figured that they went the IVF route and it failed and they... went and tried the old fashioned way ;).

Yep! Picked up some root beer for the occasion. :)

Thanks for digging that up, Random_Spock. :techman:

I'm almost up to that episode in my re-watch. Definitely will keep this information in mind while watching it.

Speaking of my re-watch, I had every intention to make it through the entire series and both movies before the new season began, but it looks like I'll only reach maybe the end of season six/start of season seven.

Despite falling well short of my goal, I still plan to watch IWTB on Sunday before the premiere airs.

We watched The X-Files Re-Opened special last night. Got us all fired up. I really hope they do this well, and erase the lingering stink of the last movie...

:ack:

You're welcome, Sto-Vo-Kory.

Ah.

Well that's better than nothing. Didn't get very far on mine... only partially through season 1.

Cool.

Hey... some of us liked that! :p

I didn't find it as bad as that 'Dearest Dana' crap. :barf:

Really excited to see the new season! The X-Files is my second-favourite show of all time (after DS9) so the more X-Files the better.

I'm currently near the end of season 8 on my re-watch so I'll probably wait until I'm done before watching the new season.

I'm so glad I decided to watch the series a few years ago on Netflix. I feel I'm going into this new series with a vague idea of what is going on rather than no idea. Wonder who they will incorporate CSM into this series.

I'm trying to wrap my head around Mulder and Scully now being a just few years away from the Senior Discount at Denny's, though I'm only five years away from it myself.

What are your options?
Honestly, I don't know. I was hoping to watch it on my big ass TV, but I don't have cable, and I don't subscribe to any services that would stream it. I was hoping I could get it through the Playstation Store, which is how I watched the last season of Doctor Who. It was super convenient.

It looks like season ten will be offered through the Playstation Store. I think Hulu and iTunes are also options, if the Playstation Store doesn't immediately offer it.

It saw it there the other day, but I wasn't actually able to do anything with it yet. I hope that changes.

So am I. I grew up watching them... so it's weird seeing them now. Not that it's a bad thing. And Mulder is around the same age that CSM was back in the day. That kind of blows my mind .
