The X-Files : Season X (Spoilers!)

Welcome back to one of the biggest hit tv series of the 90s. Just curious, what was the biggest hit: This, Friends, or Sienfeld. I remember thinking X-Files was bigger, mainly because people actually would stay home on Friday Nights to watch it.

Good question. Friends seemed to be bigger. But I considered it to be overrated. Seinfeld was pretty big too. I think they were all about even.

The CIA supports the XF.

Weird. I don't remember that at all. Sunday will be forever ingrained in my mind as X-Files Night.

The X-Files aired on Friday nights from its launch until the third episode of season four. From the fourth episode of season four ("Unruhe") until the final episode ("The Truth"), it aired on Sunday nights.

Well, there you go. I didn't actually get into the show until around its 4th season, so that makes sense that I don't remember the Friday thing.

More than 50 million people watched the series finale of Friends, which is about two and a half times more than the biggest audience The X-Files ever had.

I I've seen several references now to the first episode not being as good as people hoped. The only actual review I've found on sites I frequent is IGN, which gave it a 7.2. The main complaint seems to be that they thought it was "drab, and stagnant", and they thought some of it had a "forced "redux" feeling".
I'm still looking forward to it though, I tend to be a lot more forgiving them IGN's critics seem to be most of the time.

My wife and I were Friends fans, it was OK as a sitcom, I suppose, but never as smart as Seinfeld. I find it unwatchable now, especially the last few seasons, while I find that Seinfeld gets better with age, like a fine wine.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this new X-Files season, and look forward to the discussion here.

The highest rated X-Files episode ever was "Leonard Betts" in season four with 29.1 million viewers.

Fuckin' Fox - of COURSE the game went overtime, and of COURSE X-Files is delayed.
It's just like the 90s all over again!
JEEZ!
Just once I'd like to see a football game delayed while a sci fi TV show goes overtime.

So, by this logic Friends is bigger then Star Trek because has bigger ratings. By this logic, MASH (125 milion people watched) is biggest showw of all time. Cmmon.

The X-Files is biggest show os 90s because multigenre and influence on other tv show. Star trek has enormous influence on pop kulture. X-files has also but x-files has enormous influence on others television shows. Not just similar like fringe, supernatural, buffy, lost but also homeland, castle, bones, 24, breakin bad. Vince gilligan who wrote for x-files six years said that breaking bad don't exist if no x-files. Sorry for my english.

And like star trek, x-files has huge fandom. Friend and seinfeld is not tv shows that has huge fandom. Fandom is primarly for sf and horor films/shows. X-files is modern the twilight zone. Multigenre show (drama, action, sf, horor, comedy, mystery) and because of all that x-files is on of the most influences show off all time. 10x01...

I thought they would use the old opening credits but it does look out of place now that Anderson and Duchovny are 22 years older.

We also have the benefit of modern effects. Nice saucer crash.

I like it so far. Surprisingly. Best line... In regards to Tad: 'Mulder: Why would I watch this jackass, Scully?'

Thank god. Was really worried about that.
