The One Thing You Could Change, VOYAGER Edition...

Spend the whole 1st season and maybe some of the 2nd working on building the relationship between the Maquis and Starfleet.

Have it be a difficult transition from a trust and integration standpoint. Interject some real disagreements between Janeway and Chakotay more like what we saw in Scorpion 1 & 2 but ramped up.

Even if Voyager was in the delta quadrant, no Borg. Before Voyager the Borg was a real threat. In Voyager more like the villain of the week. Not having the Borg would also leave out the stupid Hansen storyline where they hunt the Borg that "robbed" TNG of their first contact with the Borg.

They should had said 'this is getting too close to Borg Space (Which I would have around the core and inner arm) and the crew does a hard NOPE NOPE NOPE. One episode with the Borg, maybe, and they're just scouting around looking for civilizations to assimilate. A lot of civilizations, even, are left alone, some even modern or even warp-faring, because the Borg already has that and is looking to see if they'll make anything new or grand in a hundred, thousand years; Voyager runs across a lot of happy worlds or small warp-states with no issues and then WHAM. A Borg Scout. Not even a cube. But then it becomes a chase because the Borg want Fed tech, and now the Feds are on their flank - a simple explorer, but a recent one. Voyager does whatever it can to not go further into that hornets nest and never looks back. Maybe that's how they get 7, but little more.

Only a couple of episodes with the Borg would've been OK. TNG had 6 episodes with the Borg. Voyager 23, right? How many times must they beat this unbeatable enemy before it becomes something not that dangerous? In TNG they beat the Borg once. On another occasion Picard had to ask Q for help.

Technically Generations robbed TNG of that. Unless we're supposed to think that none of the rescued El Aurians told starfleet what they were fleeing from.

It's going to take 70 years to get home. Encourage the crew to have children!

Samantha Wildman and B'Elanna did it.

Just to make the Borg a bit scarier, I would have put them AFTER the year of hell (which wouldn't have been deleted, of course). As the last real hurdle on Voyager's way home.

The Borg WERE their last hurdle home ("Endgame").

Not meaning to derail the thread, but I do have to agree on one point.

The Borg were overused, if by number of appearances alone.

Except for seasons 1 and 3, which produced 20 and 22 episodes respectively, all the seasons had 26 produced episodes. The Borg were in 23. That's almost an entire season.

1 of out of 7 episodes, pretty much. If you factor in that we didn't really get the Borg until season 4... it becomes even more skewed to Borg heavy. Even taking out out the 2 appearances before season 4 begins, you have 21 out of 104 episodes.

1 Borg episode out of every 5.

I don't think even the Klingons appeared in that many episodes during TNG's run. (Not counting Worf and Alexander, obviously.)

There were a few things I would change but if I could change just ONE.in a wishful world it would be that Be'lanna Torres and Seven of Nine got together.

Have "Year of Hell" cover an entire season as the showrunners wanted it to.
The only story in VOY that ever felt like it had a real sense of danger

Janeway orders all the men to try get her pregnant in a reverse David Koresh

I agree with this. Not sure how things would have shaken out with the Kes/Doctor dynamic adding Seven to the mix though.

It would have shaken out into a great night for the Doc

I really liked how 2003 BSG treated the addition of the Pegasus. I wish that the Equinox was around for more than just the 2-parter.

Would have given us the conflict that Chuckles and crew never did

But my change like many here is use the Borg sparingly as keeping the mystery keeps the fear

Again though, this illustrates how the writers always tended to go for the 'easier' option - why not make the Equinox/Nova-class the more powerful ship?

Really ramp up the stakes by making Voyager the smaller of the two.

If equinox was more powerful they wouldn't have had the argument that they had to do things Voyager didn't to survive

Power and being able to travel vast distances and having the resources to do so are two different things. Defiant would be a daunting foe for the Voyager, but would have a much harder time trying to travel from the Delta quadrant back to Federation space.

true.I misread more powerful as bigger but ya it could have been Defiant or Steamrunner class

Two children born in seven years isn't very many, especially in a crew of approx. 150. But, yes, they did.

Was already pregnant.
True. Samantha Wildman was already pregnant before they were stranded in the DQ.

I don't think we needed whole episodes devoted to the notion of crew families/children. Some throwaway lines here and there and some extras walking around in family units would have been sufficient. Maybe a C plot around creating an education curriculum or planning a holodeck "field trip" or converting a storage bay into a child care area. Just enough stuff to acknowledge that 70 years is a long time, and they need to be thinking very long-term about how the ship will need to function should it actually take the whole 70 years.

And don't get rid of the kids you already have. Like Mezoti, the twins and the Borg baby for example. I also would have let Seska's baby actually be Chakotay's son.

Maybe Kes could mentor Seven.

I would say, the episode in Enterprise did that as well. Plus another person said technically Generations robbed TNG of that.

He has his own issues trusting and commanding Tuvok.
I think there was trust issues between these 2 characters far beyond the second episode. Because many critics say "Everyone was getting along by the second episode".

Kim, I think, is the only person with no family back home and starting at the very bottom of the chain of command.
But he does have a family. Unless you mean that's what you would change. I would make sure Harry was promoted.

I would have brought Voyager home with 3 episodes to go in Season 7 and then the final three episodes showing repercussions of them being home. I didn't like how Endgame just "ended".
I like this idea. Plus, I would have them ignore "Endgame" completely. Find their own way home without a future Janeway mucking up the timeline. Have it take many episodes. And give us plenty of time for resolutions of things left hanging up in the air. Like the fate of the Maquis.
