The OFFICIAL ST:TNG Theater Screenings In July 2012 thread

One would think they would choose at least one of the more popular action-oriented episodes like Yesterday's Enterprise.

"Yesterday's Enterprise" certainly wont be ready by July 23rd. They're only about halfway done with Season 2, FX and all... and this screening event is meant to compliment the Season 1 release on Blu-ray the next day.

That said, there may be other events like this for subsequent seasons.

Plus they are showing season one episodes to celebrate the release of season one on Blu-Ray.

Got my tickets! I felt wierd calling the theater and asking if they were using a 2K Projector or their digital advertising projector for the showing, so I'm taking my chances. Hope it looks good regardless.

I was going to ask if this is the only way - call the theater and ask. I can imagine getting some clueless person who transfers me to another person, who "accidentally" disconnects the call.

Does anyone know of a better way to find out?

Thinking about this some more, I would now say it's actually kind of pointless talking to someone at the theater about what kind of projector will be used. According to their own literature, Fathom events are only ever shown on advertising projectors. That's what they use.

But since those projectors vary wildly between theaters (and even between auditoriums in theaters) what you should really be doing is finding out what auditorium it's going to be playing in at your theater (ask that instead -- or if you have the ticket already, take note of the auditorium number) and then peek into that exact room and watch the advertising between showings to assess the quality of the projector (such as brightness and resolution) and the size of the screen.

USA Today mention

Wow the nations largest newspaper (circulation 1.8 million daily) USA Today did an article on this!
'Star Trek: TNG' comes to the big screen

no news that we don't know though. they have the 30 second promo video at the link too.

also the Wall St Journal Marketwatch has a story:
Cineplex Entertainment-Star Trek: the Next Generation(R) Hits Canadian Cinemas
actual news:
The evening will conclude with an extended preview of the Star Trek: The Next Generation season two Blu-ray, to be released soon.
this event will be screened in 55 theatres across the country [Canada] through Cineplex Entertainment's Front Row Centre Events division.

Anyone else noticed they used Troi's 6th season promo headshot in the promo poster/flyer for this event and combined it with everyone else's from season 1? As a sidenote, I always liked that hairstyle/look for Troi (curly ponytail-ish look). They only used it a few times in Season 6 (last scene in Relics comes to mind when they're sending Scotty off in the shuttle). They also appeared to apply darker makeup to Marina which made her look more tanned and which I liked better than the pale white look she had in Seasons 3-5.

I posted this over in the TNG-R thread but it's very relevant here too. I went to see a movie last night and look what the theater was advertising!

I wrote to Empire Theatres about this and their response was "it's opening weekend for The Dark Knight Rises" and they would have a hard time sparing a screen for this. It's a one night event on a MONDAY for goodness sake.

Extra feature at end

I saw this today and while it is a surprise for this cinema event it should also indicate the upcoming season 2 special features on the Blu-ray.

Audiences will also get a chance at a sneak peak of "Measure of a Man."
The only reason to mention this is they would have [unseen] new footage in an extended cut to get fans talking about both releases this year.

If you don't already know there is a thread about it. Measure of a Man had an extended cut the editors did in 1988.

It's coming to Australia!

The TNG event is being shown in various cities on Thursday July 26 at 7pm. And not just the capitals - even towns like Armidale and Byron Bay.

I only just discovered this on the Dendy and Palace sites, but a Google reveals a SciFi TV blog post that this was announced way back on July 3. So, for anyone who didn't yet know:

Tickets are a bit steep at $25, but I'm so surprised this is getting this wide a rollout here that I'm going to support it.
