Spoilers The Mandalorian season 2 discussion

Disappointed paths lead to Skywalker & co all over again... ugh.
Loved the finale of season 2 otherwise.

If Mando (the Pedro Pascal one) and the kid aren't the major focus in season 3 I'm out however, since I don't care about the greater SW universe, even if it has awesome acting talent like Timothy Olyphant and Ming-Na Wen.

So Moff Gideon somehow managed to steal it from her.

It's not like small objects like a Dark Saber can't be easily stolen with the right "Thief" put into play.
We don't actually know the story behind that yet, but given how inexpertly he handled himself here, odds are he didn't beat her in a stand-up fight.

The point here being though was that she *never* earned the Darksaber to begin with and couldn't hold onto it even when it was handed to her. She needs the redemption of an honourable victory to legitimise her claim, otherwise she's just another pretender. Even if she ignored her personal sense of honour and just took it, she'd instantly loose the respect of Koska Reeves, who being the only Mandalorian witness the other clans might listen to is Bo-Katan's only way to prove how she regained the Darksaber. As Gideon says, it's not about the saber, it's about the story.

Remember that when Maul took down Pre Vizla most of the former Deathwatch warriors turned on a dime. That's how important victory by single combat is to the warrior clans. Sure, some would back Bo-Katan no matter what, but without that unifying symbol, not enough to retake Mandalore. Again: this isn't her first rodeo...or her second.
Is he? The show started 5 years after Return of the Jedi, that's 25 years before Force Awakens...how old is Kylo in that movie? How much time has passed in the show since the first episode?
He was born around the time of the Battle of Jakku, which is about a year after Endor. So yeah, he'd be about 4 years old at this point.

Kylo was born approximately a year after the Battle of Endor (Han and Leia were married soon after the battle). If one assumes a year per season, than Ben Solo is maybe five or six years old. Luke doesn't take him to the temple to train until he's ten years old or so. Things don't go sour at the temple until somewhere up to six years before The Force Awakens. So there are upwards of two decades between theses two events. That assumes a years or mores time has passed, and it doesn't seem like it for this show.

As for the Jedi being Luke...well, if all things are still equal, he is the only fully trained and official Jedi left in the Galaxy. Everyone else who might be left is a Padawan survivor or a student of a Padawan survivor...or Ahsoka Tano (who refused to train the Child)

That we know of.

While this is true, if all things are still equal ("Last of the Jedi will you be"), that leaves only Luke Skywalker as The Jedi at this point in time.

I mean, Leia is basically trained, but not a Jedi.

I think that with these new shows, the future isn't set yet. Hoping anyway. I would love to see a new Jedi(s) at some point.

Could be that the writers simply forgot to have him give him the ball. That was a lot of stuff to jam into the final minutes of the episode and they might even have thought the unhelmeted farewell with Grogu touching his face was far more important than showing the ball again.

Luke probably wouldn’t have allowed it. The ball represents that emotional tie with Dinn that Ashoka believed would lead to the dark side for Grogu. Luke has a major uphill battle to train him and I fear it won’t end well.

True. Luke is still brainwashed by Jedi dogma at this point so it would have been a no no.

We'll probably get a scene at the beginning of season 3 with Din holding the ball and being depressed while mellow Mando music plays.

Maybe they did the ball scene and thought it was lame. They were going for more than just cuteness at the end. They wanted it emotional. When you think about it, the ball scene compared to what we got would have been much worse. We all would have went 'awe cute', but would not have cried a puddle like we did with the helmet off touchy scene.

a few thoughts:

* Shoulda made those droids out of beskar!

* On the Darksaber thing: I don't recall Sabine beating Maul in combat, or Bo-Katan beating Sabine for that matter. If we must adhere to the 'rule', wouldn't that make the rightful owner of the Darksaber... Palpatine?

* BIB WAS ON THE BARGE DAMMIT
