Spoilers The Last of Us Season 2 - Spoilers

Thought it was alright, and I say that as someone who loved S1.

Wasn't a big fan of the adjustments to Ellie's characterization or Bella's performance (thought she did a fantastic job as 14-year-old Ellie).

Really enjoyed Dina and the little we saw of Abby.

Be very interested to see how this comes together over the next couple of episodes.

I think they are aiming for a good balance between sticking closely to the games for fans who have played them and love the set pieces but use the TV medium they have to expand or change things that the videogame didn't have time or money for.

Case in point - i have started to play the first game this week and the intro to it up until Sarah dies went by far too fast, the show did it much better by establishing Sarah as a character, showing her day and more conversation with Joel before shit hit the fan, which made the shock of losing her that much more impactful. The same with Frank and Bill's story - from what i read online in the game it's just a bunch of notes you can find and piece together a story but if i remember correctly that relationship went south when in the show it led to one of the most beautiful, tragic but also sweet story in recent years.
I do find it a little ironic that what will probably be by far the biggest action sequence in the whole season, the infected's attack on Jackson, is original to the show.

What the actual fuck???

I am not into spoilers but this event has been spoiled to me without looking for it ( thanks Internet) i just didn't expect it so soon.

This was season finale level shit and it's only the second episode, what the hell?

What an amazing episode, my mouth was actually open the moment it happened and didn't close until the episode was over at which point i immediately grabbed my phone and called my best friend, who had already written me a cryptically worded but shocked message. She and i were still shell shocked from it and i love how much story this opens up.

This season is going to be wild.

Now that that's out of the way ...

Strong episode. Kudos to Kaitlyn and Bella. Kaityn clearly studied Abby's cutscenes from the game, as she absolutely nailed Laura Bailey's delivery (Abby's voice actress in TLOU2) in the "You stupid, old man. You don't get to rush this" scene - it was uncanny.

I played both games back-to-back a couple of years back and was also unintentionally spoiled. But I was also taken aback at how soon Joel's demise occurred. I assumed it would happen late-game and I'd play as him for a time.

I only know Dever from her role in the sitcom Last Man Standing, these are usually very light roles and ( controversial opinion) not that demanding acting wise.

Here she knocked it out of the park and it's only her second appearance so i'm looking forward to Abby vs. Ellie, that will be awesome.

I'm currently playing the first game for the first time and knowing the story it has a somewhat lesser impact and maybe another controversial opinion i find the show superior. I have just met Bill in the game and had the first few action scenes but the storyline in the show is vastly superior to it, maybe also because animators in the game can only do so much with the technology they have whereas in the show you have acting powerhouses like Pedro Pascal, Nick Offerman and Bella Ramsey, that lifts this up to a whole other level for me.

Since i have now seen the show's version i went on Youtube to see the game version and once again i find the show superior.

The Bill switcharoo last season was fantastic. In-game, Bill was a cautionary tale for Joel, whereas in-show, they flipped it on its head.

It's funny you're comparing your game experience to the live-action version, whereas I can't help but do the opposite.

The motion capture for TLOU2 is next level, though.

I have just played through the Bill part and while in itself is a sad story in game what we got in the show is far superior and one of the finest hours of TV in recent years.

The same also applies in the prologue with Sarah, we barely get to know her before she dies but the show does a much better job making us care for her before she dies and the timejump happens. Also it is greatly expanded how life post Apocalypse is now way before we meet Tess.

I'm not knocking the game, it is a good game and i know what's yet to come ( just arrived in Pittsburgh?, where they meet crazy lady who runs the town) but one can see how much thought went into making the show to take full advantage of the medium in a way the game couldn't. Both stand well on their own though and i can fully see how the game story could make for an interesting TV show.

Once the TV show is done i'll have to see if i'll immediately play the second game because i heard the show might split the game story in 2 parts, i.e. season 2 and 3. We'll see, i don't want to spoil the show for me and i can wait gamewise.

I was a little shocked they did the thing so soon, in the game you have a little time with Joel and Abby together and he's starting trust her, and as a player I was starting to like her since they didn't reveal who she was or what her plan was until after. So when she does kill Joel in the game, it was even more shocking than it was here.
I was a little surprised with how all of that played out here, first of all I was shocked they revealed her plan and backstory early the way they did, and then I was expecting to spend a little more time with them together before she killed him.
The performances from the whole cast was absolutely outstanding in all of that.
I was also a little surprised we got all of that and the Infected's attack on Jackson Hole, I had assumed that would be to seperate episodes.
One thing that I liked with the game and we're already getting some of it here, is that Abbey is not just some violent crazy person, and she's a sympathetic person with a completely understandable motivation. If we only saw things from her perspective we would easily be able to side with her over Joel, since he's just be the psycho who killer her father.

Oh yeah, this season is going to really go to some unexpected places.
I'm a little surprised they don't appear to have cast Yara and Lev, I can't imagine they're not going to be part of this season.
So has anybody heard any rumors about where the split will be between this season and season 3? At first I had thought maybe they were going to do all of Seattle in Season 2 and then California in Season 3, but thinking back, I'm not really sure if all of the stuff in California is long enough for a full season unless they massively expand it. I have a little trouble with the exact timeline of things with the way games jumps back and forth in time.

I haven't played Part 2 yet, so i don't know the story but part of the reason for the changes might be so they can focus entirely on Ellie tracking down Abby for revenge, to completely focus on this since this season they only have 7 episodes and maybe to throw in some surprises for the players of the game.

They did change enough in season 1 too, Bill and Frank's story being the most prominent.

I was on a little Youtube spree today after the episode as Max released several Behind the Scenes videos and some other promo videos. I have yet to see any Pascal co-stars who don't seem to get along with him and have great chemistry with. I'm so happy for him that his career exploded and he's now an A-Lister.

I really hope they don't solely focus on Ellie tracking down the Abbie and her friends, because half of what made the game so great was the way it split it's focus between Abby and Ellie, getting rid of half of that would take away a huge part of what made it so great.
It occurs to me now that they did it as a way to make her more sympathetic right from the start, so they don't have to work as hard for it after Joel's death like they did with the game.

F'in Daily Mail website spoiled me. That border, whatever you call it, on the side, with all the thumbnails. Serves me right. Same thing happened a few years ago with a different show.

Maybe now I'll learn my lesson and stay away from that place.

I can't go on Youtube mere hours after something popular premiered without some jackass putting the spoiler right in the title of the video or in the thumbnai, so i learned to be quick or just stay off my usual entertainment news sites until i had time to watch it.

Proper newssites don't spoil in the title and give you multiple warnings before the article but Youtube is just a free for all but even then sometimes you get a pretty good idea that something major has happened that makes watching the scene a bit less impactful.

It's an unfortunate development.
