Season 2 will be here in a few short months. This is the place for news and eventual discussion. Filming has begun and so far we know that Tom Cavanagh is returning. Then there's this bit of news:

Geoff Johns confirms that Jay Garrick will appear on The Flash

The season finale of “The Flash” raised the bar in terms of the show’s willingness to commit to its comic book roots, and one major thing that stood out during that final episode was the helmet of one Jay Garrick, the original version of “The Flash” from the golden age of comics, which toppled into the primary universe.

At yesterday’s “DC Entertainment: From Page to Screen” panel (via CBR), executive producer Geoff Johns confirmed that it wasn’t just a cute Easter egg.

“That’s not an Easter egg, that’s a story point,” Johns said. “We’re going to see Jay.”

Glad to hear they're really doing the Golden Age Flash. As a kid, I got into him first actually, with All Star Comics from the 1970s and whatever reprints of 1940s issues I had.

He's broken the barriers of time and space to come here from another universe...

...and he wants his hat back!

Jay Garrick...born in 1977...guess we'll see where they go with it....

Well, the actor is 38...we'll see about Jay himself, and if Earth 2 is running parallel or so with Grant-Earth. (i.e. WW2 was 15 years ago for Earth 2, or there's some time travel in addition to dimension hopping).

They might also have Jay do some flashbacks (pun intended), when he was younger, and add lots of gray.

However, it does make me feel real old...a WW2 hero is cast with someone 5 years younger than me!

And OY -- another love interest for Barry...hope they aren't doing the Felicity...a character who is quite believable as a virgin all of a sudden has sex with 3 people in a season

Wasn't Zoom the reverse Flash from season 1???
What's the difference?

Reverse Flash (Eobard Thawne) was the villain in season one (which I really don't think is a spoiler, since its not giving specifics away). I'd assume that Zoom is Hunter Zolomon, who was a reverse Flash style villain from modern day Earth, instead of a time traveling one from the future like Eobard.

As for the rest of the news Patty Spivot is the worst character added to the Flash's supporting characters in the comics in years, but I trust the Flash tv people to do her better (and hopefully not just as a third wheel in the Barry-Iris romance stuff). Teddy Sears could work as Jay, since I doubt they'll make Jay old, he'll probably just be from an alternate world and be a normal age. Either way I'm really excited to see Jay.

I see. When I checked wiki Zoom and Reverse Flash seemed to be the same and the Reverse flash in season 1 was a mix of those characters.

We tend to forget that Jay was 40ish when he and Barry first met in Flash of Two Worlds back in 1961. (Jay was in college in 1940/Flash Comics #1) So the actor is close to the right age. By tying Jay and the rest of the JSA to WWII the age gap got wider as real world time moved on, but Barry stayed the same age.

Some info from the Flash panel has already been mentioned here, but here's the panel in full for those who want to watch the whole thing:

"Joan, honey, have you seen my hat?"

"Have you tried checking Earth-1, dear?"

The original JSA is my favorite superhero team, but I'm not one of those fans who gets hung up on them being tied to WW2 because they didn't fight in the war like the All Winners Squad or the Invaders. They were stateside pretty much the whole time. That's just the time they were originally published, but you don't see people demanding that the JLA be tied to the 60's. So it's long past time to get rid of this notion that the JSA has to be tied to WW2.

If there was one thing I liked about the new Earth-2 comic, it was that they rightly moved the JSA away from WW2 and made them younger. The constant need to explain how the JSA could still be fighting crime in this day and age just got old (no pun intended).

I feel the same way. There was a burst of war related stories right after Pearl Harbor and again when the war was coming to a close. Half the run of the series took place after the war was over. The tie to WWII didn't happen until the 70s and was cemented by the All-Star Squadron in the 80s. The JSA/Earth 2 should been placed on the same sliding scale as the JLA/Earth 1 and be perennially 10 years older than the E-1 heroes

Well said!:techman: And good job mentioning that the whole "must be tied to WW2" is a relatively recent thing. I love All Star Squadron as it introduced me to my then favorite hero....hint: he's the guy I use as my avatar, but yeah, it sort of did more damage in the long run as now people seem to have a hard time imagining the JSA as anything other than a WW2 group who had some adventures later.

You're absolutely right that the sliding time scale should've been applied to them. There aren't enough of these :techman: to show how much I agree with that statement.

Ted Knight would be a nice addition to the Flash series. He's got the science/Science fiction angle that the show's built on.

I'm really looking forward to Season 2, especially now that we know we are getting Jay Garrick.
