first two times it was sad then it became a parody with the

Piano falling
bad taco
electricution
slipping in the tub

Sam's wigging out. It's like he's in hell himself. How long has Dean been gone? It's like he's died inside himself. He's willing to murder to get Dean back.

And this is another episode, I wasn't looking forward based on the sides. Maybe I should stop reading them.

Whoa. :wtf: That certainly turned out to be grimmer than the parody it started as. Sam's not going to be all right if his brother goes to hell. Mean Sam is very bleak. I liked the quiet, no crescendo, no "Oh, he saved Dean at last!!" ending. He just hugged his brother and acknowledged the truth about himself. He sure would have gone out and bled someone else, wouldn't he? All of sudden I'm very glad there'll be four more episodes in April and May.

I can't wait.

Dorian how did Jared do? This sounds like it could be a great chance to shine.

Honestly, mswood, he unsettled me. It wasn't a sex on legs sexfest like BUaBS. Not in the least. Sam had given up, and the whole second half unsettled me....which I think was what they were going for. The change in tone at midpoint is positively jarring. Seeing a defeated Sam at the end who just....leaves.....is grim. It sets up nicely for an unhinged Sam. I hope Kripke stays with the idea of Sam continuing to lose his moral compass. He was willing to murder an innocent tonight, and probably would have done so, even though it was a hallucination of sorts. Sam didn't realize that at the time.

Dorian I wasn't expecting a Sam that thrived on causing pain (Born Under a Bad Sign), but a broken down shell of a Sam who is willing to do anything to get Dean back.

If thats how it plays it really, really agrees with how I have envisioned the path of Sam Winchester for this season.

He has tried everything he has known to save Dean.
We see him them really almost give up, since Dean doesn't seem to even want to live.
We then see him question, does he have abilities, untapped still.

And we see Dean open up and ask to be saved.

Now we see how fair Sam will go to do just that. But unlike his possible demonic abilities, this doesn't involve (I assume), him changing into something inhuman, but something tragically all to human (just in the very bad way).

Is it me or have Jared's looks been changing a bit? Maybe it's just getting a little older or something but it struck me that he looked a bit different.

Anyway, I'm glad they flat-out namechecked Groundhog Day. Some funny moments but I've seen this kind of story a bit much lately to get really excited.

I don't remember Bill Murray being willing to go out and bleed someone to get his day to stop repeating. :D I loved the Travis Bickle reference.

I also am wondering how much the strike effected this episode, since it was the last one writers were working on before the strike shut down and only moved up, since the other episode has a stronger ending for what could have been a long break.

Lets think of some other gems effected by rush jobs for a strike.

The Child and Neutral Zone (which both sucked).

Ok, I finally saw it. And I liked it, but I didn't love it. I was hoping for a darker 2nd half of the episode. ANd while it got the story across of A driven, obessive Sam who has closed off to everyone, I wanted more. Put em through hell I say.

I will say my favorite thing about the episode besides just the everyday banter and behavior between Sam & Dean (always a highlight for myself) was Sam fixing Dean dinner. That image was more effective then his "cold shut off" characterization. Beyond that I was impressed by the other aspects of Jared's performance.

As for Jensen, I was shockingly enough disappointed. All the brother moments and comedy bits were spot on (sorry had to include spot somewhere), but his death scenes really didn't connect. And while I know this was probably due to 2 reasons (one its is extremely difficult and demanding to get one great death scene, but over and over again, would just emotionally cripple an actor), and that it doesn't work with the lighter tone fo the first half.

But that first and last death, should have nailed us. Should have hit home as hard as Sam dying last season. And for the better actor, it didn't.

As for the trickster, for someone who does follow spoilers quite a bit, I didn't have a clue until today, so that was very surprising.

As to the situation, I don't feel the trickster truly time warped them (and the rest of the planet), but manipulated their perceptions of time. Just as the Djinn manipulated the perception of Dean, though the Trickster can manipulate matter as well, and not just experience in memory.

But how was the preview for next week, my stupid station didn't air it (but I shouldn't complain too much since I actually got a picture this week).

The trickster didn't time warp them. None of it was real. He was teaching Sam a lesson because Sam and Dean had wandered into his mischief with the other man who debunked supernatural secrets--because that's what tricksters do. They cause mischief and take the high and mighty down a peg.

Sam fixing Dean dinner after Dean was gone tore me up. Did you catch how Sam turned up his collar like Dean? Sam just seemed empty and cold. Just like John.

Interesting variation on the Groundhog Day scenario - plus Jensen Ackles is a very good actor. But I'm utterly bored by Jared Padelecki (sp?) and that pretty much destroys my interest in the brothers' relationship. Ackles can't do it on his own. Sorry, I'm sticking with my Petrelli brothers. ;)

Also, mostly-episodic shows like this simply don't interest me anymore. I know there's a plot-thread with Dean dying after a year, but it's not compelling enough to get me to hang around.

You missed the "Born Under a Bad Sign" episode when Sam was possessed, Temis. He was sex on legs in that episode. He really knocked it out of the park, too. But, if he doesn't appeal to you then he doesn't. Different strokes and all. I think you'd have enjoyed an episode last year called, "What Is and What Should Never Be" when a Djinn created an illusory world for Dean in which his mother hadn't been charcobroiled on the ceiling when he was four years old, and he met her. He and Sam didn't have to hunt and didn't get along. Ackles knocked that one out of the park. In the commentary, Eric Kripke said the crew "all got something in their eye" when Dean was talking to his father's gravestone in that ep. Yeah, Ackles can definitely kick some ass there.

I finally got a hold of Heroes. Nathan and Peter are cute, I'll give you that. I liked the first season, but the finale just left me cold for some reason. I kept thinking, "Why can't Peter just fly away by himself?" I'm not sure I buy this bit with the brain being conveniently vulnerable for Peter and Claire, you know? I'm glad they got rid of Issac and that dull as dishwater Simone. They were dead weight. Now that Peter absorbed Issac's mojo, he can paint the future.

You should try it one more week. We meet up again with Hendricksen, the FBI agent who's tried to arrest them ever since a shapeshifter trapped them in a bank in Baltimore last year and made it look like Dean committed murder. It's a cute story. :guffaw: They're rerunning "Nightshifter," the episode it was based on last season at 8 next week. It was one of the best eps of the season.
