Strange New Worlds Season 1 now on Youtube for FREE!

My local news just informed us that Strange New Worlds Season 1 now on Youtube for FREE!(In anticipation of Season 2).

I have been waiting to do a month of Paramount Plus (money but also time...wanting to have a binge month, for all the seasons of the various shows I have missed).

So share the word with friends who have been missing out. It might be a while for me to catch up as well, but it will help me!

One excuse might be most people won't ever know they're there.

The YouTube algorithm is a fickle thing, and it's unlikely they'll show up in anyone's feed who aren't already subscribed to the channel. (Or at least watch Weaton every week, even if not subscribed.)

To really be effective, they need to attract gen skiffy and skiffy-adjacent people.

Just watched the first episode and I thought it was fantastic. There were a couple of things that tweaked me because of how the events in SNW differ from some of the stuff presented in TOS but I've come to accept that changes are going to be made and to just go with it.

Noticed an episode listed last week, but it was the premiere which had already been offered. I assumed it was merely a bit of "reflux" for the YouTube algorithm. A day or two later I saw another one listed. I went to the Paramount+ channel of YT to investigate and discovered all ten episodes of the first season were available!

Having already seen the premiere when it was first offered, I started with episodes 2 and 3 Monday night and 4 and 5 last night. I hope to finish by or during the weekend.

Now, I have not seen any official statement to support this, but I suspect this is some kind of "limited engagement", offering the first season for free until (or maybe just after) the premiere of the second season on the streaming service. After that point, the episodes will be "pulled". If people want more (specifically, the new season), they will have to subscribe to the P+ streaming service. Actually, that's smart if mercurial strategy, kind of the "dealer" approach.

Anyway, it's been a trip finally getting to see these episodes, discovering all the Easter eggs provided, some obvious, like the "Amok Time" fight music, others more obscure, like the recorder buoy "Bleep!" from the second pilot used as a kind of radar return "blip" in the fourth episode. I still have 5 episodes to go, so circumstances may change reactions later, but it's wild to see T'Pring in a sympathetic light when for more than 50 years, fans have seen her only as dastardly manipulative!

I felt like I had a mild Trek burnout after all the excitement of PIC S3, but I rewatched these on yt and remembered what I liked and disliked about it. Now I'm actually looking forward for more, and hope to leave that burnout behind :D

I have been grateful for the opportunity to watch for free... justbtoo much going on to do a binge month, and no money to spare ...

The only thing is that commercials appesr in the middle of the scene (as opposed to "natural" end on broadcast), but i guess that is part of the sell.... you get so annoyed at that, you throw down the moeny for a better flow.

They finally got me to do that... I may even forgive myself for doing it someday.

Got hung up in my rewatch in Episode 6... again. Maybe I should skip that one in future re-watches.

Commercials make the experience more enjoyable for me. Reminds me of growing up.
The problem isn’t the commercials...it is that the scene is cut in the moddle. When i was growing up, the scene would fade to black and dialogue was complete just before showing commercials.

Meh. Same difference to me. Commercials are the least bothersome thing to me. It bothers my kids far more.

Hate the things. When I recorded a show, I always made a point of editing the advertising out.

I hear that a lot. To me, with the shit I deal with on a daily basis a 30 second ad or whatever is the least bothersome thing in my day.

Depends on the ad. If I have to watch another ad for moderate to severe Crone's Disease, I'm going to throw a toilet at someone.

Except that commercials these days suck. I've been watching some 80s and 90s commercial compilation videos on youtube. They knew how to make interesting and fun ads back then. These days, it's all insurance company drug company ads or law firm ads. Boring. I don't need to see more people bopping around happily because they lowered their A1C with Rybelsus, or stupid Doug and his Emu for Liberty Insurance.

How about Thyroid Eye Disease? Honestly, are there that many people that suffer from this that I have to see a commercial for it, every freakin' commercial break?
I don't mean to diminish anyone suffering from any condition. I have a few medical issues myself but the frequency of the ads is damned annoying.
