Some takeaways:
  • The new interview was someone important who had not already been interviewed and not in the premiere version of the documentary.
  • The version shown at the premieres was not seen by them as the final version, just what was necessary to meet their commitment to backers.
  • Few actors beyond the main cast were interviewed. Only Martha Hackett and Scott MacDonald were mentioned. Plenty of the behind the camera people were involved.
  • There was a mention of the Westmore family documentary as well as something about the cosplay scene. There are Trek personalities involved. The preview reel makes it look like Frakes might be the one conducting the interviews.
  • "The Star Trek train is coming to an end.": they made no commitments to making an Enterprise documentary, only mention the D-Con Chamber.

Hold up - what?!

That sounds like 455 is moving the goalposts to me.
Maybe. It's not clear what further work needed to be done, only some vague statements by Kornblodt after 6 minutes. However, David Zappone himself says that they went in seeking feedback from the audience, which have been incorporated into the still not yet completed final cut.

My own impression is that they have more enthusiasm for the projects that are not centered on Star Trek (even though they might have Star Trek content). They seem to think the cosplay piece, which might be multiple episodes, is something they want to put their future on. Moreover, it sounds like the podcast with Trineer and Keating is about all they plan to do with Enterprise. They showed a preview of the Westmore dock, which looks good, but which is also surprisingly far along. There seems to be a good amount of work put into the cosplay piece, according to their own statements. I don't see how they would fit in another Star Trek focused documentary at this point.

they made no commitments to making an Enterprise documentary
Honestly, I'm okay with this. The documentaries made for the ENT Blu-rays were plentiful, and covered more than one single movie-length one ever could.

Obviously I wouldn't mind having another one, but I also don't know if I'll be alive in five to ten years when it would finally get released. ;)

I'd say so. Back in October they said the film was completed, done, finished. There was never talk (not that there was much talk to begin with) about it being just a 'premiere backers cut'. But yeah, it is what it is. We'll see what they come up with in 6-8 weeks.
The Westmore doc sounds pretty interesting.

I just assume if they make an Enterprise documentary, that should be ready by at least 2057.

Honestly, though, if you want to get something like upcoming Voyager documentary, check out the Center Seat docu-series that was made. I believe episodes are on Amazon. There's one on Voyager. Not as detailed as the documentary will be, I'm sure, but I've no doubt it covers a lot of the same ground in less time.

I found out last week that they showed the Documentary on the cruise. So this is another instance where they are only showing the documentary to people who pay extra or live in specific locations but people who donated to this campaign 4 years ago get nothing. The way they have handled this documentary is basically everything you should not do when running a business or just a charitable contribution where perks are promised. It's not going to happen, but I wonder if this could be a possible lawsuit or is that too extreme?

That is pretty disappointing. However, I am not surprised. I wouldn't support a lawsuit, unless it turns into another Axanar type fiasco, as there was never a firm premiere date. I do believe we'll see the doc this year. 455 Films credibility has certainly been tarnished in my eyes.

Once more, what pisses me off the most is the lack of communication to the backers. We get shafted while everyone who goes to conventions gets all the updates first.

I fucking paid to help make this documentary happen, and I expect to be told how my money is being used before the rest of the fandom does.

Agreed. I have no doubt that we'll get it...eventually...but I'd appreciate more transparency.

...I guess that may be par for the course though, since my main concern about the documentary itself is the possibility that it will essentially be a fluff piece lacking in transparency.

A lawsuit would be pointless at this time. Maybe if they never deliver but I doubt that's going to happen. And you can't sue them for lack of communication.
The fact that we have to track down YouTube videos to get updates is just insulting to the backers.

To be honest, I always expected this to be just a nostalgic look back. Just like the DS9 doc mostly was.

Jessie Gender has put up a review of the doc based on the showing from the Star Trek Cruise. Sounds like To The Journey doesn't hit the highs that What We Left Behind did, which is unfortunate...

I'll be very curious to watch this...especially if it ends up not entirely reflecting the final product...but I don't have the bandwidth to watch a ~20 minute video right now.

Producer David Zappone posted an update in the Indiegogo comment section. The film will be released to backers in 2 weeks. He also explained why there's been a lack of updates. It seems they no longer have a person on staff to take care of social media.

Here's the direct link. Frustration from a backer in the threat of a lawsuit gets an equally frustrated David to respond. Like I said earlier I would not support any kind of legal action because I don't think we've been swindled. 455's communication has been poor which is something they're going to have to improve upon for future projects of this nature.
