News Star Trek Prodigy Cancelled, Season 2 to be shopped around

Why do I get the feeling that this whole business with season 2 of Prodigy is just a way for Paramount to avoid backlash and that they hope everyone will in time give up, forget about it and move on.
I don't think so. There is no indication Paramount(+ or regular) has a masterplan to avoid backlash, or that they even care. The animation special simply ignoring Prodigy is proof that they don't care about that.

On the other hand, continuing production into season 2 would be throwing money away if they have no intention of generating income from at least season 2, so logically they do hope to sell it (and they are probably succeeding, though it will all depend on an agreement about the money which will be hard among people who don't want to give the other party their fair share if they can avoid it).

They've just given their audience a hard slap across the face by canceling PRO. They're probably not going to be so stupid as to remind them of it.

I don't think that's their reasoning. They are marketing P+, and Prodigy isn't on it. If it is on Amazon or Netflix in a few months, they would have been promoting a competitor.

And if they were really sensitive to backlash, they would have renamed the whole thing so it would be clear they would be promoting Lower Decks and other P+ shows, but not "animated Star Trek" in general (while leaving out one of the two current animated shows, even pretending they have forgotten all about it). What they did was sure to trigger those annoyed by the way P+ has been handling things.

I mean, I doubt any insult is intended. They just have to promote their brand and operate under whatever rules the powers that be give them in order to do so.

If there is viability in Prodigy it will have to come by encouraging visibility of the product by the fans, and showing there is interest to a potential buyer, rather than just assuming all shows will survive the current belt tightening, which is still ongoing.
