How long will it take for season 2 of Star Trek Prodigy to be released in Canada?

Hard to say about a physical media release. Netflix has done physical media releases of their shows in the past, though IIRC it's been a while. The last show of theirs I remember getting a physical media release was Lost in Space, and even then it was only the first season. They did not put the second or third out on physical media.

Even if Prodigy S2 did get a physical media release, it would likely follow the precedent of other Netflix shows in that the physical media release wasn't until a year after streaming release, minimum. And even then, if it did get physical media release in the US before CTV airs or finishes airing it, CTV could exercise its right to block a physical media release in Canada. CBC did something similar with Doctor Who's second season in 2006, which got a physical media release in the US that fall, but because CBC wasn't finished airing the season, they blocked the Canadian DVD release until spring 2007.

I’m really hoping that whatever agreement was signed with Paramount allows for a home media release. But yes, this is one of the things I was worried about when the deal was announced, since Netflix’s record with releases is so terrible. (The lack of home media releases from streaming-original shows is something I’ve probably complained about on this board before.) It would be disappointing for Prodigy season 2 to be the only season of Star Trek not available on disc.

At least in that case we can import.

I guess season 2 will come to Canada. I really hope so. Will season 2 ever come out on dvd or blu ray?
Very strong chance it will. Season 1 did. But likely not until around Christmas at the earliest. December makes sense from a sales standpoint as I imagine it would a popular kids Xmas gift. But who knows- may be pushed to early next year.

Do you know of Netflix's history of shows being available for digital purchase like iTunes? If CTV doesn't block it, this may be another avenue of getting access to season 2. ( season 1 is already on itunes Canada)

I seem to remember not that many years ago that I was unable to watch a show that was actually filmed here in Canada, and being frustrated with that. Unfortunately, I don't remember now what the show was. :(
You may be thinking of the series Family Law, which is produced by a Canadian network (Global), filmed in Vancouver, and set in Vancouver...but is still over a season behind in airing on that network, despite ostensibly being its "home" for broadcasting purposes!

The Warners produced SANDMAN for Netflix recently got a Blu-ray release.

Season 2 on Blu-ray is almost certainly a when not if. If season 1.0 had faltering sales, season 1.5 would have been put out manufacture on demand (like STLD season 3) and not a wide release. Plus there were releases in the UK and Germany.

I don’t think that was probably it, as I don’t generally watch legal shows, but thank you for the example!

I assume the only reason it doesn't get a home release is if after the Skydance takeover, they decide they want to get out of the home media market for whatever reason.

It seems unlikely, but I kind of hope they get the rights to the French track for Canada because I liked that dub. Although I can't remember if the S1 BDs were bilingual.

Got a reply a reply from CTV but not surprisingly it's the standard copy and paste non answer:

Thank you for contacting CTV. I understand that you wish to watch Season 2 of Star Trek Prodigy. Upon checking, we don't have an update yet and adding new content depends on the licensing rights. We would recommend checking our website from time to time for updates.

I got the same thing, worded slightly differently.

Thank you for contacting CTV. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. As per checking, we don't have an update yet id Star Trek: Prodigy will be available on CTV. We would like to inform you that we only have the Broadcasting rights for the current contents available on CTV. Before we can add any new series or obtain new seasons of existing series, we must acquire the licensing rights for them. We highly suggest to visit www.ctv.ca for all the updates.

I'm sure this is just copy and paste stuff but if it's true Season 2 of Prodigy has not been licensed to any canadian outlet, then Paramount may be partly to blame for not selling it (season 2) in Canada at all. Why not Netflix Canada or even Paramount plus Canada? I know domestically it was sold to Netflix, but I believe international rights are separate so it could be sold to any party international Paramount wants. Including the Canadian version of their own streamer. Wouldn't be the first time different seasons of the same show were on separate outlets.

I will send a separate message to CTV asking them directly if they currently have the rights of season 2 but no realese date or if they do not have the rights at all as of now. Not that I expect an informed answer.

This is beyond stupid at this point. Trekmovie has repeatedly stated that they are trying to find out themselves so Bell Media is likely ignoring them too.

At this point I dont care if Bell Media will show it or not. Just give us an answer!

That is bizarre, as it seems to contradict the media reports around the rights for the show. Hopefully it’s just a situation where the person generating the response (if there even is a person) just doesn’t know what the situation is.

What a frustrating situation, though. I’ve already encountered a couple minor spoilers just doing random internet things. I don’t think it’s going to be too much longer before I give up and try the VPN route.

I already engorged myself on spoilers back when the French versions of the episodes were released, so I know in broad strokes what happens in the season. Still, it would be nice to actually watch the season.

And I got to say, even by Bell Media standards (which were low to begin with) this whole situation is piss-poor as far as clarity is concerned.

I wasn't sure where to put this, since I can't go into the General Discussion Thread right now, so I ended up putting it here because it would only be relevant to Canadians who are already fans of Prodigy.

If you were holding off buying the Season 1 Part 2 blu-ray of Star Trek: Prodigy in hopes of a better price, just wanted to let you know that Amazon Canada currently has it at $18.99 as part of its Prime Day deals. Only 6 copies left at time of this writing, though!

Well until now you are really Lucky, that someone Channel directive buy star Trek shows in Canada,we live that type of situation(nobody want buy the shows) from decades here. Now we don't have lower decks season 4 in any form or new worlds in Blu-ray.

I know its very frustating. Paramount never cares about internacional fans.

So here the normal its just simple search the show in Jack sparrow mode. Because normally we don't have another choice.(Nobody buy the shows ,and nobody sell the shows pysycall or digital dubbed).

Its the same history from decades. If you don't live in usa,uk,or Germany in one way or another Paramount just ignored you.

Just see we are the only that we don't have our dubs in Prodigy blu-rays.(French,english,Germany,latinoamerican)(but not castillian)A we don't have view until now season 2 in skyshowtime.

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. ALL TERRITORIES NOW HAVE CLARITY ON PRODIGY S2 EXCEPT CANADA!! BELL MEDIA CONFIRMED IGNORING MEDIA OUTLETS LIKE TREKMOVIE WITH ANY ANSWERS

mccoy-thats-just-typical.gif

Not really a shock, @trekee1313 already mentioned SkyShowtime starting it in August earlier in the thread. But it's discouraging that Bell isn't even responding to inquiries from other media sites. This just is such a bizarre situation.

We're the country that premiered Star Trek first in the world, but we're apparently going to be the last to get Prodigy S2 (if at all??)

Every time I see that this thread has activity, I come in hoping that there's been an announcement, and every time, I am disappointed. :(
