Star Trek: Picard: The Last Best Hope (novel)

Great book, that does a good job setting the table for the show. Personally, I found its story to better than the one being told in the show thus far.

I got my review copy yesterday (it was out 3 days ago so GRRRR it's rather late) and read it and took my notes last night).

I really enjoyed it. But I dislike Jurati even more than I do on the show. Ugh.

Why's that? She sort of reminds me of Tilly (a character I also wouldn't mind seeing retooled a bit).

Am I wrong in my opinion that she comes off as incredibly needy where Bruce Maddox is concerned?

Few chapters in and it's good so far. I was taken aback a bit by a reference to the Hobbit. Do they still know Lord of the Rings that far in the future?

There's been numerous references in the Litverse novels. But even if you want to write that off as non-canon, I'm still not seeing the issue here. I'm not a fan at all, but even I can't deny Tolkien and his work are among some of the more notable of twentieth century literature, and I see no reason why it wouldn't last into the twenty-fourth century. Or does literature stop at Sherlock Holmes?

Oh, absolutely. Also waaaaaaaaaaaay too in awe of the man. He's smart, but not nearly as much either of them think he is.
