Wasn't there some plot somewhere about fissures opening up in space with ships from alternate universes coming through? What happened with that?

I love time dilation stuff, that was one of VOY's best episodes.

Mariner knowing about Inner Light is nice, it means that Picard did do what his wife asked for: Tell them about us.
But Carbon Creek is general knowledge too now? :D

Did the purple universe also have a Disaster? :D

Turns out he went through Time's Arrow there too :D

This made me almost spit my drink all over the desk

They did tease an unexpected legendary character though, someone who they thought wouldn't return so easily, so there must be someone else in the next 3 episodes...

It was ok. Kind of silly and predictable. I guess they wanted one more "Girls Trip" episode before it comes to an end.

WOW!!! This was fantastic!

I'm going to start off with this... I think everyone knows by now how much Data means to me, so having him appear again, even if it's an alternate universe version, brings me more joy and smiles than I can express. And he was just perfect!!! Every scene with him was just perfection!

After being pretty light on T'Lyn lately, it was great to have her front and center again. Tendi and T'Lyn really are a great pair, and I thought Freeman made the best call naming them BOTH Senior Science Officers.

So many great references... "CARBON CREEK", "Time's Arrow", "Disaster", "The Inner Light". But my favorite one is "BLINK OF AN EYE"... one of the best in the franchise.

Boimler, in typical fashion, really screwed up here by trying something his counterpart did. Them licking the console was priceless, though.

Mariner's story was hilarious. In a weird way, she fused together two excellent episodes... "The Inner Light" and "HARD TIME", by having her own 'family' in a prison. This shouldn't work, but it does. These writers are just awesome.

Tendi and T'Lyn... that was the real heart of this one. It was hilarious how T'Lyn effortlessly one ups Tendi on everything, only to find it was simply her way of trying to get Tendi back to being a comrade again. Great lessons here.

And did anyone else notice the rockface when they beamed down? Looks a LOT like Vasquez Rocks.

I do have to question T'Lyn's creation of a beauty product. On the surface, this may seem harmless. But there didn't seem to be a product like that around, and with her gone, there could be a 'beauty war', for lack of a better term. (I'm actually thinking this could be a real follow up story. :) )

I cannot possibly tell you how much joy having Data here gave me. My wife even commented on how giddy I was. This episode is most definitely a 10! And I think this may even hit my top 5 of the series at this point.

Captain Carol Freeman: "Or something. I can't keep track."

Dr. T'Ana: "I'm a Doctor, not whatever the f:censored:ck this is." :guffaw: Reminds me so much of Bones McCoy, Bashir, EMH. Phlox.

That's two great episodes in a row for me after last week.

I felt like Data should join the show somehow as he is always hilarious, especially when he doesn't understand. :D

I loved Mariner's fears regarding whether they were having their own Inner Light crisis and was looking for a new family and a flute. Her awful playing of Frère Jacques killed me off. :guffaw:

I also liked seeing the little competition Tendi was having with T'lyn, regardless of whether T'Lynn knew. :vulcan:

After frontloading many acceptable episodes, Season 5 finally belts out a good one, bordering on great.

This episode wears its influences on its sleeve, being a weird sort of mashup of Blink of an Eye (one of the best Voyager episodes, even if the concept was plagiarized) and several "undercover" pre-warp contact episodes (Time's Arrow, The Inner Light, Carbon Creek, etc.). Mariner all but breaks the fourth wall in mentioning the scenarios directly, but I think it works in this scenario. Her attempt to "pull a Picard" and try and have a meaningful life in the year they're stranded was a great off-kilter response to the scenario.

The emotional core of the episode, though, is Tendi's building jealousy of T'Lyn, and their eventual reconciliation. It was a pretty compact bit of storytelling, considering the short runtime meant to cover roughly a year of time. The writers have both of the characters down cold here. Tendi's temper and insecurity which hides under her cheerful demeanor. T'Lyn's Daria energy, which, underneath the deadpan, is coming from a place of genuine care. Snell is always there, creeping around, but the real tension/danger in the episode is that the team might not work together. The (relatively) low stakes here IMHO work much better with the Lower Decks format.

Of course, I have to mention Brent Spiner reprising Data again. The episode remembered something that the show Picard forgot regarding Data - that he's funny! I didn't laugh out loud or anything, but Data is pitch-perfect as a straight man in comedy, and Spiner has a great comedic sense.

If I have any quibbles here, it's that while the women were incognito on the planet, they should have had their hair grow out to show the passage of time. But that's a small issue in an episode that I found a much more effective use of the Lower Decks format than the season to date.

I think this is more the Data we wanted to see than the one we saw in Picard.

But there's a lot of court martial-able offenses this senses like Doctor T'Ana assaulting Boimler and now Boimler's screw up resulting in them losing a year of their lives.

I will say that I think some reviews have been very harsh this season because they've been "inconsequential" episodes. Isn't that the series premise? Lower Decks isn't supposed to be big and epic stuff. It's supposed to be the journeymen work of Starfleet.

I do have to question T'Lyn's creation of a beauty product. On the surface, this may seem harmless. But there didn't seem to be a product like that around, and with her gone, there could be a 'beauty war', for lack of a better term. (I'm actually thinking this could be a real follow up story.

Assuming that the fruit and vegetables AREN'T giant ones naturally, it may also result in an agricultural revolution once the seeds spread.

But if they are normally that way, then the shampoo could still have a big transformation of society.
