"Mariner and Boimler try to track down the location of a legendary Starfleet party while the bridge crew deals with an insecure alien diplomat." - TrekMovie.com

I wonder what T'Ana "cat video" type antics will be revealed this episode...if any?

A rather sweet episode, but that I find it hard to imagine Kirk doing that in a bar. That’s what teenagers do. I imagine @Christopher will write a novel one day that will reference that. :)
The alien of the week with the duplicating power seemed a bit out there for me. Felt like the sort of alien you would see in a comic book.
So Shelby is still only a captain. It’s a pity they didn’t reference any Final Frontier stuff as that novel series is basically a pre cursor to this. A more light hearted/comedic take on the franchise.

TOP TEN EPISODE THOUGHTS

1. The Doppler gag went on too long even if it was done better than the "Trouble with Edward."

2. Data Bubble Bath is something I am Mandella effecting on. Did I own this as a child? Is it real?

3. Boimler and Mariner having severe issues over his promotion is something that makes me think we're having some continuity, character wise.

4. I do love the whole "Star Trek toys exist in universe" thing.

5. Tendi and Rutherford are cute together. Weirdly, I'd like Boimler and Mariner together but not these two.

6. I choose to believe Kirk and Spock began their epic friendship trying to crash this party.

7. I assume that they tried before Kirk was captain of the Enterprise. Perhaps when he was on the Farragut.

8. I LOLed most at the fact Freeman's speech did nothing to the bouncer.

9. The Doppler thing to the party shows that Freeman and Mariner are NOT so different.

10. CAPTAIN SHELBY! Peter David must be furious. :)

7. I assume that they tried before Kirk was captain of the Enterprise. Perhaps when he was on the Farragut.
I got the impression that he was at the party but left. He wasn’t enjoying it perhaps. Spock is still around. Maybe they can ask him. :)

Also the Ceti Alpha gag was a bit silly. People really don’t do any research with that system.

Eh, according to the bar story, he was crashing. It's also possible he was kicked out.

Mind you, I have mixed feelings that Starfleet has classicism about what sort of ship you're on. I actually like the idea that the Cerritos is kind of the workhorse of Starfleet and "the worst ship in the fleet." But I also think elitism there is kind of ridiculous even for Lower Decks.

Still, it works wonderfully with Freeman's ego.

Dawnn Lewis is still the absolute MVP of the show for me. She elevates the material she's given pretty much every single time and has me guffawing consistently.

Episode on the whole was good, not great. Still yet to reach the heights of season 1, but I'm having fun.

I note that Freeman's big ego is also at play here because while the Pakleds ARE a dangerous threat now, I imagine most of Starfleet considers her, "The defeater of Pakleds" akin to claiming to be "Enemy of All Tribbles."

But yes, a lot of us can relate to showing up at a party you didn't know you'd be welcome to.

I also choose to believe, in absence of other evidence, that the Farragut was a "workhorse" ship of the Federation and Kirk found out that it was every bit as disrespected as Captain Freeman right then. Spock, who was at the party as the Science Officer of the Enterprise, took him out to a bar nearby because he wasn't enjoying himself either. Thus beginning their immortal friendship.

Yeah. I don’t see them ranking the ships like that. A captain is a captain, no matter what ship you’re on.
Speaking of which, what does “Lunar Class or higher” mean exactly? Are we going to get a hierarchy down the line?

Given that's the Titan's designation, it either suggests that Riker is a lot more prestigious than we thought or a lot less if he barely squeaks by.

Another 8 for me. A little all-over-the-place at times with the Dooplers, but a lot of fun. I never get tired of the references.

OT, but what do we think a Lower Decks: The Motion Picture would look like? This episode felt "big" in some ways.

The bartender said the event occurred in 2260-something. This would place the event after Kirk had served aboard the Farragut. There is a gap in our knowledge of Kirk's service record between the time when he served aboard the Farragut and when he assumed command of the Enterprise. It is possible he served aboard a non-capital ship during this time.

It is interesting that we hear about a 24th century Enterprise and that this ship was escorted by Captain Freeman. Considering what we know about the history of ships named Enterprise and what we know about Freeman's service record, I tend to believe that this is the Enterprise-E.

This season is, for me, has not been as enjoyable as the first season.

A fun little romp. I enjoy this season more than season 1.

That said, I felt bad for the Dooplers, first for their/ his insecurity, then in the end for being beamed to the party. Not nice towards him!
