If Discovery is indeed set before Kirk, and after Archer, as the poll indicates most people believe...

...will the show be featuring ridge-less Klingons, complete with their TOS society?

Long live the Klingon Revolution!

It's certainly set after Enterprise. Klingons will naturally have ridges, but those affected by the augment virus won't.

Something more like the Into Darkness ones, complete with the gimp masks for the ones they can't afford to additionally put into makeup.

Makes at least 3 distinct variations of Klingon. You can update the look of the 60's human versions (without explanation either way) and TNG versions but giving a uniform feel to their cultural appearance.

I really hated that they made a canon reason for this. Do we have a canon explanation for why TOS tech looks far less advanced than a PC from the 90s which is put to shame by modern cell phones?

What if they looked like this? :eek:

No. Klingons have ridges! The ridgeless klingons were done away with as soon as they had the budget. It was a retcon, klingons were supposed to always have had ridges.
Enterprise giving an in story explanation was unnecessary, it was pandering to fanboys and no show should ever do that.
I agree that Enterprise giving an in story explanation was unnecessary, but it is canon whether you like it or not. I would expect to see a mix of Klingon’s with and without ridges. :klingon:

Appearances can be deceptive. What might look like primitive technology is in actuality really advanced tech with a retro design! :biggrin:

Everything in the TOS is advanced; more advanced than any tech we have today. For example, you cannot call a ship in orbit, or indeed anyone, without the use of satellites, but a TOS communicator can. Furthermore, I bet if you dropped it in the toilet it would still work. People also point out the plastic blocks used for memory storage look silly now when you compare it to modern day memory cards. But we don’t know what the storage capacity is. Furthermore they could be large on purpose so that they can be handled with ease in emergency or are small devices in some kind of protective housing, like a black box. Everything looks cool, yet functional. As Seven might say, it’s an efficient design!

Personally I hope we won't see any Klingons at all and this question will never get an answer.
Since TNG they are completely ruined and either way they were done to death. I want something new.
:klingon::thumbdown:

A new Trek series would be an EXCELLENT opportunity to bring forth John M Ford's version of the Klingons and their culture from The Final Reflection.

His Klingon culture, along with the precepts of the komerex zha and the idea of "Nel komerex, kesterex" made for a totalitarian, back-stabbing, ruthlessly aggressive Klingon culture that internally made sense and wasn't cartoonish or derivative of Earth cultures.

Since Discovery has staked out a place in the Prime timeline, we are in for more biker Klingons that ramble on about honor.

Not really, Kronos is a big planet, there are probably Klingons we've never seen before out there.

TNG established that certain houses have power right now, but a large coup on their homeworld could see lesser sub-races taking power and abolishing the honour system.

One of the books gave a good explanation.

It was due to the romulan wars a era before and the romulans ability to hack computer and hijack ships.
Therefore they had to adopt a different design path for computers with more analog than digital components.

First Wish;
There are no Klingons featured, they still exist and are rarely mentions, but we never see them.

Second Wish;
The Klingon Empire is composed of dozens/hundreds of species. There's hierarchical structure, in addition to true "biological" Klingons, the first class level of species are all referred to as Klingons. There are middle and lower classes as well who are not called Klingons.

Third Wish;
TOS style Klingons, with better costumes.

There will possibly be Klingons in the new show per some leaked concept art showing a Klingon "Sarcophagus" ship.

As for what they look like: I would hate for them to be the same boring long-haired thugs we saw in TNG onwards. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty tired of seeing any aliens with bumpy foreheads. We saw enough of that in TNG and VOY. I'd be fine with them looking exactly like humans.

Gods, I hope so. That stupid storyline was the worse thing ever seen in trek. Just admit it was 1960 tv and move on!

That's kind of how I feel about the Klingons as well. I never understood why they were so beloved by many Trek fans.

I think Klingons will be in there - which is a shame because they are entirely played out*

* Unless they *are* the John M Ford version which would be WIN (but not going to happen).
