Star Trek 14

It definitely needs to be something new. If not a new crew, then new settings and species than have never been on the movie screen before. When was the last time there was a film based solely on exploration? TFF? GEN?

There’s the Q, there is the Borg, there are the Tholians, Orion Syndicate, Organians, Suliban Cabal, a bunch of different aliens from TAS. Even the Romulans in the 23rd century as that era of Romulans have never seen the big screen in a significant way – even on the small screen their time was limited – and the Kelvin timeline allows for a different interpretation and focus from before. Even a big screen version of “The City on the Edge of Forever” would be new.

Star Trek needs to get creative.

Small budget exploration might be a good way to test the waters on audience interest in an exploration piece.

Though, when Dune is released that might give the studio more confidence to venture in to different territory. For the story itself-please for the love of everything do something new! No, do not revisit another TOS story. No, do not bring back another Trek villain or threat. Do something new.

My guess is, we will get Discovery Feature Length, but not necessarily for the theaters.
Of course, it could still Premier in selected theaters like a few of the Doctor Who specials in recent years.

So, Do something with the Kelvin Crew, or shelve the whole Kelvinverse entirely.
If they do "another" crew, unless needed for some story aspect, it should be "prime" universe. They already muddled up with the bridge windows, hyperspace type warp travel, etc.

I reckon the next time we see the Kelvin Trek crew will be Trek's version of Ezra Miller's Flash meeting Grant Gustin's in Trek's inevitable Crisis on Infinite Earths riff.

Disco s4 probably end up being the tv COIE (Disco encounters various TNG/DS9/Voy/Ent) leading to ST14 as the Flashpoint movie (Kelvin meets Prime)

It's crazy to think that could be as soon as two weeks time!

Not really, given Disco is going to feature the GoF soon. Merely being on the big screen isn't going to be much of a distinction.
If the movie idea where Kirk to meet his dad still happens some day, then the GoF seems like a sensible way to have Kirk meet him. Either that or involve Q or Q’s son, since Kirk and his crew have never met Q in either timeline. No need to rehash time travel like in TVH.

Last week there was news that Kalinda Vasquez is writing a movie script (being discussed in a separate thread) which makes it the 5th script Paramount has commissioned for the next Star Trek movie:

Now comes the news that Nick Meyer has thrown his hat in the ring:
https://trekmovie.com/2021/03/10/ex...s-pitched-a-new-star-trek-movie-to-paramount/

Meyer’s pitch was a while ago so I suspect they didn’t like it.

Hawley and Meyer story ideas involve using new characters, so that maybe the direction Paramount wants to go.

I don't believe that They are going to be making any Trek movie for some time to come.

Not unless They decide to put Kurtzman in charge of it.
He's the only one seriously taking Trek into the future with assorted shows that are actually being made, not just talked about.

Granted the stuff he's making may not be what many folks want, but at least he making SOMETHING!

I think, once COVID has cooled a bit, testing the film waters a bit while other studios are still reorganizing is an appropriate strategy.

Meyers developed a Trek miniseries a few years ago, but CBS passed. Wonder if it was just repurposed as a movie pitch.

The miniseries was the Khan on Ceti Alpha TWOK prequel. I doubt if the new pitch is related to that.
