ST Picard: Things that just happen

Ok feel Free to add to this thread.

While watching Star Trek Picard there are lots of things that happen just because they're there. Things like the following.

There are Borg bones and weapons in the basement walls of the Picard estate hundreds of years before Picard was born

Oh there's loads of nonsense season 2 especially. A holographic character, Elnor, running from bullets... why?

Picards mum killing herself despite appearing as an old woman in that one with the traveller. Maybe he just liked imagining his mum as an old woman? Riiiiight.

Guinan already met Picard in the 18th century so why did she not recognise him in the the 21st century? Also, her age makes no sense.

Why was her bar in the 21st century at 10, Forward Avenue and then the bar she works at literally centuries later on the enterprise coincidentally on deck 10 forward section? Nonsense hack writing. Alongside stuff like a magic bottle that summons Q, Guinan suddenly being able to project thoughts into Picards head

Because he has a clearly visible mobile emitter on his arm, which can get damaged by bullets which could mess up his program and effectively kill him all.

Picard even said in the finale that as years went by he would begin to imagine his mother as an elderly woman who would offer him tea. Which, when you watch the scene with her in TNG in that context makes the scene all the more chilling.

Matalas tried to explain that as being a by-product of the fact that because the main cast travelled to the 21st century from the 25th century of the Confederation timeline, this Guinan never experienced Time's Arrow. Which does fall apart because if true, the Punk on the Bus shouldn't remember his experience with Spock. Which Matalas has admitted the Punk on the Bus scene in S2 doesn't make sense, he just doesn't care.

This, I reluctantly admit you are right about.

All of this, except that Guinan not recognizing Picard made perfect sense in the context of the fact that Confederation Picard never traveled back to the 1890s, so the version of Picard in this altered version of the timeline would never have met Guinan.

ETA: I never heard the Matalas explanation that The Wormhole gave above, I just rather felt that it was obvious on the spot while watching the episode. Punk on bus was just a silly joke that I didn't put too much thought into. Sometimes, a joke is just a joke.

The Whale Probe would have still reached Confederation Earth, so someone still would have had to go back in time and save some whales. Maybe it was still Spock?

I like the rationales that people have posted, though the mobile emitter is surely a small target that could, should? be protected by a forcefield.

Except it doesn't make any sense later on when we learn that "this adventure always happened", because of damage at the chalet that Picard remembers from his childhood.

Well, looking at the big picture, very little about that season makes sense. Believe me, I've tried. But in isolation, It works just fine.

You have to remember that there are a bunch of unseen time loops in all these time travel shenanigans we don't get to see. That's where the timeline settles out and resolves any paradoxes.

season 2 makes zero sense

Well at this point I'm just rolling with it like the first time I watched. At least season 3 was watchable despite shitting all over the previous ones by not even mentioning them, its saving grace I guess. But they then shove a Q scene right at the end again......... I thought he fucking died

Elnor's mobile emitter was larger than the Doctor's, and we never saw any manner of forcefield protection for the mobile emitter on Voyager. I mean, even getting whacked by a computer padd knocked that one out once. Bullets are a very legitimate concern.

It didn't really bother me that Q came back. It bothered me that the reason for his death was never dealt with at all. It just felt like one more thing that was floated in the writer's room that no one could be bothered exploring or explaining.

Sometimes people die. Picard is a show about old men, the first season begins with Picard getting news from his old doctor that he'll die soon. Ageing and death is built into the show's fabric.

And then season 3 goes "fuck it" and becomes Space Cowboys/Star Trek: The Expendables
