Not a bad idea! DSC Season one was all from Discovery's perspective, and then they ducked out for like 9 months IIRC in the mirror universe. There would be potential to explore other events in and around the Klingon war. I think there've been some non-canon sources that establish it as a battle against the Klingons.

I've seen a few rumblings since the first trailer that the concept for Picard is pretty much that of the fan film Renegades but with Sir Patrick Stewart in the lead.

Which was based somewhat on Blake's 7, which was based off The Dirty Dozen and The Great Escape and was being filmed when Star Wars came out... but despite being cheaper had a lot more meat to it, but I digress...) Where each new show is influenced by those preceding it and how the new show innovates and moves forward - that's what will be interesting. Or embarrassing. Or both.

Although if the rumours of Robert Picardo in season 2 are true, that would make him the first* Trek actor to play their Trek role in a fan film and then resume in in the Trek canon.

*George Takei's fan film Yorktown still isn't out 40 years later so it doesn't quite count
