SNW abandoned Star Trek pointy sideburns?

Anson Mount had the traditional pointy/triangular sideburns when he played Pike on Discovery.
But he doesn't seem to have them on SNW.
Spock has them but they're weird looking and not the normal triangular shape.
M'Benga has a beard and there's not really a lot of men on the show.
but when (Spoiler) showed up in the season finale, the lack of the pointed sideburns really stood out to me as a missing part of his appearance.
Its subtle but a hallmark of Star Trek, IMO
I wonder what the reasoning behind changing it is?

I'm glad I'm not the only one nutty enough to notice stuff like this :) I wear them (Starfleet regulation male sideburns) in real life albeit quite grey now. Yes they definitely AWOL in SNW.

Maybe we should send them this....

So if you watch the first two pilots, you'll notice that only Spock has pointed sideburns. It was part of his alien look. Pointed sideburns for everyone else don't show up until The Corbromite Manuver. Now this does seem like an extremely obscure piece of canon to be holding to considering everything else that's changed, so that might just be an odd coincidence.

What's a triangle sideburn. Are they not all square unless styled like Spock or some other unusual shape ?

Triangle sideburns are the type of pointy sideburns worn by male characters in Star Trek. It was the one change made to contemporary 1960's grooming styles to indicate the FUTURE™.

Yeah. I've noticed it too. As one who also, a long time ago, sported what my brother called "Shatners" back in college, it stands out to me when I don't see them.

Wasn't there a story out there about how after one of the TOS movies was filmed, they had to call Shatner back for a re-shoot and he had already shaved his regulation sideburns so they had to make fakes to glue on his face?

Apparently John Winston (Mr Kyle) was a Hollywood barber between acting gigs. He was also Gene Coon's barber. Interesting that Kyle was in so many Coon scripts. ;)

I wonder if Mr Kyle was the guy that guest actors were sent to when they needed a Trek makeover for an upcoming role?

According to Shatner...when he was going off to film for Generations, his daughter had to remind him that he didn't have enough length for his sideburns. APPARENTLY, if you watch closely during early scenes, you'll notice that his sideburns look weird. That's because they chopped a moustache in half diagonally and slapped it on Shatner.

Shatner said he was mortified he forgot:P

Maybe they haven’t come into style yet. We should get an episode where the crew sees a movie (or wacky future media) where the hero has pointy sideburns and the crew slowly adopt it because Chapel said it looked good.
