Series 5 'Bible' spoilers

News from the very reliable spoiler sources Lee Mansfield and Eddie over at DWF. Apparently Steve Moffat has submitted a rough outline of his plans for Series 5 for consideration, feedback, planning etc., and details have been leaking out.

Patrick Stewart has been approached to play the Meddling Monk (whether in one of the later specials or Series 5 depends on his availability and willingness to accept).

Also, Daleks (Moff written 2-parter as eps 1 & 2), Ice Warriors and Zygons.

Celtic female companion, non-contemporary (probably past), non-London.

The enemy who will reveal themselves in the series denouement will have been in every episode of Series 5

Neil Gaiman is still on the cards. He's been asked to prepare two different ideas...And Paul Cornell is likely too

Confirmed for the specials: Sea Devils planned for one, and John Simm's magnificent return...

Sounds great. Also sounds a bit too good to be true but we'll see.

And I sincerely hope the Sea Devils don't refer to themselves as "Sea Devils" this time round..

Considering that Moffat's said he wants to concentrate on developing new monsters and not relying on old ones -- "creating new nostalgia" he said -- I don't buy it.

Plus, the Meddling Monk? Another fuckin' Time Lord?

^ SM has never said he will not bring back old monsters or characters, just that any such returns must be reliant first and and foremost on story - if there is a story to be told, it'll happen. Although he did say he wants to make new nostalgia, he can do both!

This is a pretty common misconception - in his new book The Writers Tale, RTD said he too thought this ... until he heard SM's plans for Series 5, which left him delighted.

As for the reliability of these spoilers - five years ago nearly to the day Lee Mansfield broke the news that the BBC would be making a new series of Doctor Who written by RTD. Oh, the bags of salt that were spilt that day! :) He's never been wrong since.

I wouldn't mind a return of the Meddling Monk. And I can see Stewart doing a good job with it, if the rumour bears any truth.

Wouldn't surprise me if at least some of these items weren't fake and designed to smoke out whoever keeps leaking this stuff.

Whilst I firmly beleive Moffat will use old school villains on occasion, to shoehorn the Meddling monk, Daleks, Ice Warriors and Zygons into one season doesn't sound right to me--maybe it's the Zygons or the Ice Warriors?

The companion sounds good- a pleasant change after all the modern day London girls! And Patrick Stewart as the meddling Monk? Interesting...

If true.

Sorry but this sounds like utter bollocks. In fact I suspect it's an attempt to see how many false spoilers can be got into the tabloids.

Moffatt has gone on the record many. many times (back to the mid-1990s) as having on interest in the Time Lords, and while it is correct to say that he will be bringing old monsters and villians back I don't believe for a second that he'd bring FOUR back in one series.

And didn't he hint on the commentary for "Forest Of The Dead" that his first episode was about a 'killer house'?

Just as an afterthought I'm getting fed up with so-called spoilers (like the Paul McGann rubbish from the other week) being prefaced by "this person got something right before so it must be true!"

Though obviously the Monk is a Time Lord, if only retrospectively, it's a bit of a non-sequitor to say that because someone's not interested in the Time Lords, species, he wouldn't be interested in using a character who happens to be a Time Lord. For starters, Mr Moffat does seem quite interested in writing for the Doctor...

To throw in a bit of total speculation just to see how long it is before it gets reported as fact somewhere else, Paul Cornell wrote a rather fun novel featuring the Monk... adaptation?

I think the only problem with the Monk is that it's yet another Timelord who survived the Timewar. Then again considering how many Daleks survived it isn't beyond the realm of possibility.

The 9th Doctor did say he'd know if any other Timelords had survived. Now obviously he didn't sense the Master for specific reasons , but as with the Daleks there does come a point where you dilute any impact the Time War had.

Plus if he's going to bring another TL back it should be Romana!:p

Honestly the only rumour that's cropped up so far that I find in any way believable is Albert Finney as Churchill.

I do wonder if someone down Cardiff way is deliberately leaking false information.

Good job I didn't say that then.

None of this sounds authentic to my skeptical ears.

And in case it were true, I wouldn't be pleased. In my opinion, non-contemporary companions never work.

And come on. I love Patrick Stewart, but let me conjure up an image in your heads. The Meddling Monk. Stephen Fry. Hmmm?

Of all of these, I hope the non-contemporary companion is true. Neil Gaiman, Patrick Stewart (although not necessarily as The Meddling Monk), the Ice Warriors, and the Zygons would all be great, too.

Yeah, I'm with you. I'll believe when I see it...
