Sell me on "The Clone Wars" series

Ok, so I watched (suffered through?) TPM & AOTC as a refresher today and then went on to watch the initial TCW movie and it was enjoyable.

-Nice to see Rex in his prime and interesting to see Ahsoka so young and inexperienced after watching them on Rebels.
-I'm liking Anakin and Ahsoka as a pair already.
-Already feel like I'm missing on not watching the first series re: Ventress.
-The baby Hutt was cute but Jabba's effeminate uncle was certainly... odd.
-The battle droids are actually funny here.

I'll get started on the series proper later tonight.

TCW contradicts the 2d series in regards Ventress.

Please remember that TCW is not shown in chronological order. This mainly applies to the early seasons. For example the TCW movie came first but there are episodes later in the series that take place prior to the movie. One episode features the death of a clone and then later we see the early days of that clone during the war.

I loved Ziro the Hutt and wished he had more episodes.

I originally watched it to analyze star wars technology in order to take digs at it in the star trek vs star wars debates. The series does give access to star wars canon. I watched them all and watched a season or two of rebels but stopped watching. I haven't gotten enough motivation to continue to watch it yet. They're the kind of shows you watch to give you something to watch.

I can't add anything to that already said except to say you should absolutely watch The Clone Wars! It's fantastic, far better than the prequel movies. Everything everyone said above- totes watch it.

Speak for yourself. Rebels is one of the finer TV shows currently on the air.
Speak for yourself also. It's a cartoon, not everyone is crazy about cartoons. It started getting interesting when they brought a certain character from the movies and a certain character from the clone wars series. That's the point where I stopped watching. I don't miss it but will watch the rest of them someday.

Just watched Hondo's first appearance and I must say I much prefer the more toned down version of him here compared to the cartoony, over the top version of him on Rebels.

Also, "Cloak of Darkness" was a pretty great episode, more than made up for the absolutely wretched "Bombad Jedi" just before it.

He was always over the top, but the change in perspective is a core part of his character arc between the two shows. In TCW he's a pirate and war profiteer with real power and wealth in his little pond. By 'Rebels' he's an old has-been, his money & resources are all gone and his attempts to reclaim it under the Empire have increasingly diminishing returns. The more he looses the more grandiose he acts to try and compensate.

On the positive side, I think that's about the least intolerable Jar-Jar has ever been to date. ;)

The Genndy Tartakovsky series was very much worth it, the Battle of Hypori was especially great. The depiction of the ARC troopers was excellent too.
The subsequent series got better as it went, becoming really good at the end. The Lawless was a particularly good episode - Sidious vs. Maul (with the Darksaber) and Opress on Mandalore.
Episodes from both series were better than a lot of SW books that are out there.

^How about we try *not* talking too much about episodes they haven't gotten to yet, 'kay?
Sorry if I ruined anyone's day, it wasn't my intention. I didn't think I revealed any shocking outcomes or revelations there.

This was actually referenced in a recent novel, though there are no exact details, they do mention a crashed republic acclimator class ship and jedi.
Without spoiling anything, their depiction of The Battle of Hypori is excellent in my opinion. It shows what Grievous was capable of when he was at his peak.

Oh I know, I just thought it best to say something before anyone got too carried away instead of waiting until after. ;)

Ok, just finished season 1. Pretty mediocre overall, but the Ryloth trilogy was truly excellent. :techman: Felt like I was watching Band of Brothers... in SPAAAAACE! The little Twi'lek girl in the second episode was absolutely adorable, and hey look, the Syndullas! (Though Hera is mute and unnamed here.) The finale definitely wasn't as good, but was fun. Felt a little like Star Wars does Die Hard. Was surprised to see that Cad Bane and Ziro the Hutt were the same voice actor. I'm always pausing the credits at the end of every episode here and with Rebels to check out the cast list. Lots of folks I recognize from video games. ;) Anyway, looking forward to season 2!

Which character was Hera? I've heard that she was in that story before, but, IIRC, when I watched it the only Twi'lek female young enough to have been Hera was the wrong skin color.

Also, Wookiepedia doesn't list Hera as having appeared in Clone Wars.

Well, it seemed to me like this was her here, but when you see her in the parade at the end of the episode her skin appears light orange, so maybe I'm mistaken. They could've always just redesigned her for Rebels though. *shrug* Anyway, that's my headcanon and I'm sticking with it!

Yeah, that's not actually Hera though you would be forgiven for presuming so. That's just some random village girl who ran up to Cham because he's something of a folk hero. Can't remember where it's said, but IIRC Hera is in a much more secure location with her mother during these events.

On the plus side though, you remember the little Twi'lek girl Waxer and Boil befriended? She actually does show up in Rebels, wearing 212th armor no less!
