Season 5 renewal and Season 4 premiere

I wonder if we'll wind up with another 'season five isn't necessarily the last one... wait, no, yes it is' situation a la Discovery, or if Lower Decks will actually scrape forward another year or more.

I hope the premiere is not during the convention. It probably will be though. Kinda wish it was mid August (STLV is the beginning of August).

A sixth season would give it the highest number of episodes out of any modern-era Trek at an even 60.
Disco would still have it beat with 65 episodes by the end of its fifth season, right? Out of the current crop of shows, though, I fully expect LD will run the longest. It's just cheaper to make, and I feel like whatever audience it has right now will remain pretty static through its run.

Curses, you managed to quote that before I edited it. I realized my error was somehow forgetting to add Disco's ten-episode fifth season to the count; I was thinking 55.

And yeah, agreed - I think there's a decent chance LD keeps going for a while longer.

McMahon posted a teaser paragraph on twitter:

I was worried that T'Lyn would end up like Kayshon and only have a few lines per season but this is making it sound like she's basically joining the main cast. Very exciting!

Pure speculation on my part. Feel free to treat as bullshit accordingly
With SNW premiering on June 15, its finale should be on August 17. I therefore predict Lower Decks will either premiere August 17, same day as SNW's finale or a week later, on August 24, which would have it premiere the same week as season 3 premiere last year (premiere date was August 25).

Late to the party but I'm choosing for myself to make peace if the fact that S5 may be the end of the show. Not that it absolutely couldn't run a full 7 seasons but because animated streaming shows struggle to get each and every season they do get. I'll grant P+ does a bit better with the animated properties they have, but that could be because they're attached to big franchises (is Beavis & Butthead and South Park, and it's a toss up on whether that will be cancelled before the Simpsons).

Streaming shows never get past five seasons and while it's cost effectiveness is a net benefit in its favor....trends don't lie. I'd love to be proven wrong, however.

It’s a half hour show, so it gets 10 seasons!

Season 3 shows no signs of downturn for sure. I know the main source of ratings comes from streaming over x period of time, but I hope home video sales are also tallied in.

This has probably been addressed elsewhere, but does the current strike affect animation at all? Or will Season 5 of LD not be affected by this?

Lower Decks is unaffected by the writer's strike since its writers are affiliated with TAG (Television Animation Guild) rather than the WGA. However, if the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) goes on strike, that will impact the show, since obviously the entire cast belong to the SAG.

It should be noted however, not all animated TV shows are with the TAG. I know shows like Simpsons and Family Guy are WGA, and I believe Prodigy is also. Though even then, animation has such a long production timetable that the effects of the strike won't be noticeable for the short term. I know Simpsons and Family Guy have announced their fall premiere dates and the only thing standing in Prodigy's way at the moment is its cancellation and erasure for Paramount's tax write-off.

Thanks for the info!
