I saw this episode uncensored when I was about that age. I thought the gruesome ending was awesome.

Space channel (now CTV Sci-Fi) in Canada got in trouble because DSC season 1 aired before the watershed hour.

The complaints at the time could be seen publicly on the report website, I don't know if you can still read them now.
