Season 2 required to watch or skip it?

If you really liked the Trek episodes featuring time travel to the present ("Future's End", "The Voyage Home", "Past Tense"), you might give it a look. Ditto if you're really into the Borg, and you want to see yet another take on them. If you're Borged out and not interested in the "let's go back in time" trope, I think you could skip this one without harm. There's not really even enough Q to justify a rewatch.

Season 2 had great first two opening episodes, a ton of middling to shitty episodes halfway through (with lots of wheel spinning), and alright finale (that was less fanwanky than S3's finale). Also Raffi and Seven was almost as sweet as Riker and Troi...

Required? No. Worthwhile? Entirely up to you.

I enjoyed it enough for it to be worth watching. Why not give it a go? If you enjoy it, great. If not, skip ahead.

You can skip it but if your a Trek fan like me and have the addiction you likely won't be able to. Something about being a Trekkie makes you even feel the need to watch the bad stuff. Then in a few years watch it again. Won't anyone out there help us! We live in constant misery!

Hm.....

There is plenty of character stuff in even the shit episodes that is worth it. Seven and Raffi for example. Some great moments for Picard. But the general storyline is just boring really.

The Borg Queen is solid gold. There's a coda at the end of Picard season 3 that undoes the big emotional finale of S2.

It has it's moments, but it is skippable.

It ended up the most boring series of NuTrek because it was a couple episodes' worth of storyline insanely overstretched to nearly a dozen episodes...

Agreed. Which is why I have only watched it once. Which is a shame, because I wouldn't mind returning for the character stuff.

Yeah, S1 of PIC and much of DSCO get penalised for "not being Trek" but they seem a bit more rewatchable and creatively fresher in comparison (Season 3 of PIC gets penalised for being fanwank, but got enough of the general vibes and character/plot threads from the first two seasons not to completely feel like decaying fanservice, and that esentially saved the show, IMO).

See, I never minded the 'fanwank' in season three, because they literally went all out. It was their intent to be as nostalgic-trippy as they could. It wasn't perfect, mind you. But it was awesome. Atleast, I thought so. I've watched the entire season three or four times now I think.

If you want to know why Rios, Jurati, Elnor and Soji never show up again in season 3, you might want to watch it. Or if you are a fan of Q and don't mind that he acts completely out of character, tune in. Or if you love convoluted storylines that make no sense whatsoever, season 2 is for you (or even season 1, for that matter.) Other than that, it's completely skippable.
