Paul Wesley's incarnation of James T. Kirk

Well, for one that accident never happened, Pike stayed with the Enterprise and Kirk stayed with the Farragut.. Apparently he was a Riker type, waiting for the chair in the ship he knew. Though Riker wised up eventually.
But Kirk still had the same experience at that time, right? If he had been offered the Enterprise because of a vacancy he would have, right? I assume that Gene Roddenberry didn't imagine he was kicking and screaming when he was offered his command.

At the the time of Pike's accident, TOS-Kirk had been in command of the Enterprise for a year or more. We've little idea what TOS-Kirk has been doing between the time of the Farragut disaster and him taking command of the Enterprise from Pike. Similarly we've no idea what Alt-Kirk has been up to in those years. All we see is he became Captain of the Farragut. Did TOS-Kirk follow the same path? Was he ever given command of the Farragut? Did he move on to a different ship? Was that ship his prior command and not the Farragut?

My apologies. I assume Kirk took over after the accident. On the other hand, avoiding the accident would not logically have any impact on who commanded what vessel, and Kirk would still have been qualified to command the Enterpris3e.

Maybe, yet alt-Kirk wasn't given command of a Constitution class ship. Perhaps there were no openings or the Admiralty thought he need more seasoning?

Kirk was a 24-year-old Lieutenant at the time almost everyone on his ship was killed by an alien entity. I doubt Starfleet would take a young officer who'd just witnessed a massacre(and who'd been witness to a massacre of a different kind at the age of 13) and give him command of one of Starfleet's most advanced and powerful starships. I know Kirk in the Kelvin Timeline has a meteoric rise to command in just one movie but TOS Kirk was different and I sincerely doubt they'd see the official reports on Tycho IV and go: "this James Kirk was good on phaser controls. Let's give him the Captaincy of a Constitution-class starship."

That's fine. He did not regress. He did not lose experience. He would still have gained experience. He would still have been a man capable of commanding the Enterprise.

This does make me wonder if SNW will eventually fill in the gaps of Kirk's career or still leave vagueness of what he did prior to the Enterprise.

I don't know if we'll have all the missing pieces, but we'll at least know a little more, given he makes an appearance in the second season as well.

From a military/navy standpoint, it'd make more sense that Kirk would get promoted to LCDR and command of a smaller vessel, like the Farragut. Command that for a bit then get promoted to CDR and become the XO of a capital ship like the Enterprise before getting his own capital ship.

Shatner was a solid man in TOS, verging on a little overweight at times - but muscled overweight, not soft overweight. Pine was a bit more 2000s-fit, but not what I'd call slim. Wesley is just a lot slimmer and lanky. I don't feel like he could throw a punch.

I'm not body shaming, I'm the last one to do that. But Kirk as a character keeps himself fairly strong and clearly enjoys a burger (to the point that McCoy has put him on a salad diet before). Kirk 3.0 looks like he enjoys a nice tofu burger. And that's great; he seems healthy, but he isn't built like Kirk should be.
One of the lankiest most paper thin men I ever met who also fought was a man who taught Tai chi ch'uan (Yang style) at Rhodes College about 2 decades ago. He was a wing chun practitioner in his own time. Apart from being one of the best grapplers I ever encountered, his punches were incredibly fast and powerful. Someone not knowing it might have messed with this academian, but just the one time. I can believe Paul Wesley's Kirk can scrape with the best of them, even if I don't believe in the double-ax-hand-punch. :)
