Ortegas Character Teaser

Looks like they (mostly) kept the Phaser II's look unchanged, perhaps some minor updating. Don't particularly care for the JJ-pew-pew.

Star Ship porn.... me likey!

The fired like that in "The Man Trap" so it's good continuity! :)

The visuals look great, but the dialogue in these is starting to worry me. Fingers crossed.

It could be a Tholian ship. It initially looked like a Gorn ship to me for some reason.

FWIW, the same ship can be seen on a panel at 0:15 in the La'an teaser.

BTW, allowing for lens perspective, the shuttle interior looks like it's maybe twelve feet across, at the cross-section where the characters are blocked here. That's not much bigger than the TOS shuttle interior, which was about eight-ten feet wide. Perspective makes the cabin look bigger in general:

Anyone find it odd the front console is manned by crewmembers in red vs the typical gold? It seems they're aligning with how Discovery had Detmer and Owosekun in the bronze equivalent.

Not only STD - effectively, this goes back to TNG, where the crewmembers in front were often put in gold uniforms. Since the color-coding of ship's roles was reversed from the TOS era, this makes them equivalent to "redshirts."

Sometimes, both TOS and TNG mixed it up depending on what other roles the bridge-front officers might fulfill. The officer to Data's right (screen left) was sometimes in red. In at least one episode of TOS, "Mirror, Mirror," Sulu remains the helmsman while wearing red to signify that he's assigned to (Head of) Security.

That's how it was in the second pilot.

Not that Tholians can't change ships but it looks too big based upon past ships.

  • I don't like the phaser "bolts" - there should be beams, goddammit
  • No fan of retreating Tholians - I wish for new stuff (though Tholians is much better than even more familiar stuff)
So two things I don't really like.
Very happy to see more of the show though in general. And I absolutely love the look of the show so far (yes - nuEnterprise still ugly & way too dark. But that's just a minor point by now).

New phaser looks good.
Very interesting visuals in general - which is GOOD for Trek!

Cautious, but optimistic overall. Very excited to see anything new & overanalyze to death (that's a good sign).
