Orphan Black - Season 2 Discussion

With all respect to the other thread, I think now Orphan Black has all our attention, and the new season deserves a new thread.

I've been excited for the return of this show for what feels like more than a year. We all know how amazing Tatiana Maslany is, but when I did a recent re-watch, I was amazed at the rest of the cast too, especially Jordan Gavaris as Felix. Can't believe the show is finally back, and if the publicity and trailers are any indication, this show is going to get better than it was in Season 1.

I just found out I actually get BBC America now so I just have to figure out what channel it is. :)

Can't wait.

Yes, as wild as I am about Maslany's acting, I have have to give the young man credit, he more than holds his own in the show. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing him worked into the story more and more scenes with he and Tatiana (as any of the clones).

Really glad the show is back.

I could see them both being drunk and ending up in bed.

They would both be horrified, but for very different reasons.

ETA: CNN.com has a nice write-up about the series HERE.

I'm so glad I came across this thread just now. I was thinking the season premiere was a week from tomorrow. Boy I would have been upset if I had missed it. I can't wait to sit here and discuss it with y'all afterwards, that was one of the highlights of watching the show last season as well :D

Pills, weed, and gunrunning on top of musicals and home crafts.

My love affair with Allison continues...

Only Alison would include a card with a gun bouquet.

Exactly! That's what makes her the most awesome clone!

Of course, I'm also partial to Rachel. I like the Cool Evil Executive persona...

And look who's still breathing. I knew they couldn't do without her.

Ya can't keep a good psychopath down...

She's Michael Myers!

It appears from the previews for next weeks episode that they will explain a bit about that. If I recall last season Kira recovered rather quickly from being hit by a car, I'm betting that they have heightened healing in their genetic code. Not on the Wolverine level it seems, but it does look like they are hard to kill. Since Helena and Sarah are sisters, I wonder if this "healing factor" extends to the clones as well.

As far as season premieres go, it was pretty good. Picking up almost directly from last season worked out just fine, they didn't skip a beat at all. If I didn't know any better I would have said they filmed this episode last year and just aired it now.

And I was pleasantly surprised they retained the theme song from season 1...I could have sworn I read somewhere that they were going to drop it.

I will write more later, but my first thought after watching that episode is:

HOLY SHIT SHE's ALIVE. :eek::eek::eek:

Most of the time season premieres really do break the momentum of a season finale and I end up being a little disappointed. Orphan Black kept that momentum going and that episode went really really fast. Glad the show is back.

Someone (Leekie?) did have a line here about how it wasn't just Kira that was a genetic gold mine, but her mother as well. Although that could be a tricky balance. On the one hand, giving her enhanced healing ability could improve the credibility of the usual trope of the series lead constantly getting injured and beat up and never suffering any long-term disabilities as a result. On the other hand, they don't want to give her superpowers, I think. That would rather change the tenor of the show.

Although I would totally like to see fan art of the Clone Club as a superhero team now.

I still have to remind myself periodically that all these different women are played by the same actress. It's amazing what a chameleon Maslany is, and how easy it is to tell the difference between, for instance, Cosima and Sarah playing Cosima. Although the hair and makeup have a lot to do with it too -- Sarah-as-Cosima's hairstyle was sort of halfway between Sarah's scraggly mane and Cosima's tight cornrows.

Even with all the murder and child abduction and marketing human beings as property going on here, I think the most shocking and horrific thing in the episode was the attempt of the theater troupe to rhyme "plasma" with "asthma."

I haven't seen the season premiere yet but I saw Orphan Black: The Cloneversation. It's a Talking Dead-style one hour special hosted by Wil Wheaton where he discusses the show with the cast members, the show runners and guests Patton Oswalt and Orlando Jones. Apparently Wheaton is really into the show and talks about what a huge phenomenon it's become, we see how Tatiana Maslany plays against herself and the show runners talk about their efforts to get this to the screen and that it wasn't always going to be a TV series. It's not bad. Here it is...
