Star Trek fell from #8 last week to the #11 spot. It dropped 52.3%, its biggest weekend-to-weekend drop thanks to the loss of a large number of theatres and the holiday falling on Saturday. Star Trek was the only film in the Top 12 to see a decline on both Saturday and Sunday. The film did have a better per theatre average than the 3 films directing ahead of it.

International Total: $125,190,225
Global Total: $375,028,364

A little lower than both the estimates and my personal guesstimate, but nothing to be embarassed about.

It is a little disappointing that all the trends seem to indicate Trek could still be in the top 10 if more theaters had been able to hang on to it (and were presumably prevented from doing so due to pre-existing screen commitments for newer releases), but that's the way it goes. I think it will play well in the second-run theaters.

That is quite telling, and hopefully that means a similar week/weekend upcoming... maybe even enough to push it back into the top 10.

Anything coming out that would siphon even more theaters from Star Trek this week?

I found this little tidbit from BOM interesting, especially since Star Trek is now playing in semi-second run at my local IMAX, and the sequel could be opening first run there several years down the line...

"While the picture broke the IMAX opening record last weekend, it ranked third among second weekends, behind Star Trek and The Dark Knight."

Nice!

:)

Damn it... 9 weeks.:klingon:

Where did the time go ? Before you know it we'll be going to see XII.
Stupid time flies and we're getting old.

Don't see what the problem is. We're already guaranteed a sequel, and this just means it can come to Blueray even sooner. :D

^ Agreed. I'm getting more and more anxious for the DVD release. Hate to say it, but I can't wait for it to leave theaters!

And the only big-ish movie coming out next weekend is Bruno. I Love You Beth Cooper also comes out but I doubt it'll be that big. Guessing Trek will be knocked down at least 2 spots.

At least we hit $250 million today!

$250 mill US and $125 mill foreign...very satsisfying totals!

Last time I saw the film, the audience comprised mostly older people and by all indications star trek fans. The auditorium was pretty full on a Friday night a week and a half ago. I wonder if the movie will plateau at a level whereat enough people want to keep seeing it that it keeps a theatre presence for a while.

Just five minutes ago, I tried to select a seat at my local IMAX for the Star Trek movie, and it turns out, 10 minutes before it starts, I couldn't make a purchase... does that mean the movie...

sold out? 290 seats??

Wow.

I'm still impressed with Trek's box office performance. $250 million domestic, $375 million world-wide? I really didn't think the day would come.
