New Voyages-"World Enough"

I think Sulu's playing of the buttons was on purpose as to show his skill at the helm as his daughter looked on. I thought seeing him so meticulously operate the helm as if stroking the keys of a typewriter was way cool but it probably should have ended there. Walter Koenig did a great job of handling the buttons in his episode.

The Excelsior looked very very good.

Glad you liked it.

M.

So, you built her? Great work

Simon and myself did it. Flipped it off to Stringer and there it is. The texture job isn't as good as it could be (needs a lot more detail) and the lighting rig was somethign thrown together temporarily. I am somewhat embaressed that it was kept. ;)

Anyway, it did turn out real nice. Looks especially good on the 50" HDTV I have. :)

Simon as in JDR? :)

I have a few wip-images of his Excelsior. I always wondered if he finished her.
Maybe you could show us a little more of her (here or at SFM or LWG) :)

Yes, as in JDR.

As for images...I'll think about it. I'm loathe posting anything anymore. Too many fan boys.

I understand what you mean.

Great episode. Best one of the New Voyages so far IMO.

There is a lot of improvement with the acting of the major characters. Scotty is almost impossible to pull off. Only one man can really pull him off and he passed away. But the guy this version of Scotty was the best of NV so far.

Takei did a great job of playing Sulu again. Even better than the Sulu's he played in the past because this one had a different dynamic.

The story was the best of New Voyages and the little love story between Kirk and Sulu's daughter was pulled off well.

This one really had the spirit of TOS pulled off well. I've been blown away by the improving quality of the last few NV eps.

Agreed, the acting is improving no end, I think in part because the main cast have stopped imitating the original actors quite so heavily as they initially did and gone off under their own steam a little bit. Having ST:XI show different takes on these characters will help them get away with taking different directions I think. Hopefully both the film and NV will show that a straight imitation of Shatner or Nimoy is no the only way to play the characters.

Does anybody know where you can find a cover for WEAT?

I just checked their official site but it looks like all the covers are gone. A pity because the other three were really nice.

This was wonderful. It really felt like Trek to me. Sure there are some minor quibbles with certain things, but overall....excellent. Thanks for the entertainment,

The official covers are gone for good, since they are upset about some people selling DVDs at conventions, and so they decided, that they dont want to make work for those bootleggers any easier by supplying isos and covers.

From reading the discussions on their forums i got the impression, that we wont see high-resolution video files in the future either.

I doubt they'll do something that drastic. For one it would impair the viewer's ability to see all the loving detail they put into sets and costumes. As a viewer, I'm not going to enjoy a show that employs deliberate quality reduction as a form of copy protection, unless it's accompanied by a sanctioned mechanism to legitimately obtain a DVD-quality copy.

I hope the intent to try to absolutely measure viewership doesn't crush the life out of NV. Real TV shows have trouble getting accurate counts (the Nielsens are very flawed), so what's realistic here? I think distribution should continue to favor maximum quality and ease of availability, all other concerns secondary.

Thie DVD-issue has nothing to do with viewership-measurement, but with the fear, what CBS might feel necessary to do to stop those bootleggers from making money with star trek (aka. C&Ds for Star Trek fanfilms ).

All I can say is NV crew do what you have to do to ensure that these fantastic films (particularly WEaT!) aren't pulled from the net. I'd understand lower resolution episodes.

J.
