New Terminator movie coming.

To the OP, arguably the first two Terminator films also had social commentary as well. Reagan-era tensions formed the backdrop of the first film. And I think a concern about automation has been present in all the films. And both original films presented a character in Sarah Conner that if the films came out today would be hailed as a major step forward in inclusive/diverse genre casting, and I think is considered that anyway, when looking back, (along with Alien's Ripley).

Agreed. Politics should be kept out of fiction. Unless Politics is the point of the fiction of course. That stuff has its place, but it shouldn't be in EVERY DAMN THING. The problem is that movies and TV today are about "social issues" when they should be about escapism. I miss that kind of storytelling.

Why should (all) movies and television shows be about escapism? I'm of the opinion that every movie and television show has some politics, is conveying some message or theme. They don't come from a vacuum. They come from people, people who have certain beliefs, whatever those might be. Granted, some entertainment can be heavier handed than others, though I think some of that is because the beliefs espoused or being 'promoted' in said media conflict with our beliefs. When they don't, then we might think there is 'no politics' or 'social commentary' involved because the beliefs expressed are 'apparent' or just 'common sense' or 'the way it is'. Also granted, some entertainment is more direct in wanting to express a viewpoint whereas others might be half-formed ideas or something in the creators subconscious that takes form, or forms, said creator might not even recognize. And of course movies and television shows are open to debate and interpretation.

To me, the trick is saying what you want to say, in an organic way to the stories and characters, that doesn't ground the story to a halt to make your point.

I agree every show has a point-of-view but I also think fans can often see things in movies that weren't what the creators were going for. I am pretty sure "TOS" was not suppose to be about some utopia future were humans are perfect. I think it was about a better world but still a world rooted in 60's level of thinking. It represented what a liberal upper-class white person thought the world would look like if you got ride of racism.

TOS was pretty much a product of its time.

But not every episode tried to shove some message down your throat. That's the way it should be. Keep a balance of fun and message if you must.

I agree. Plus there is a thing called being subtle. Trek usually was that for the most part but it's hard to say that because anyone can trout out the half white/black on each side of the face meme.:) I have always felt that if you want to really take a in your face look at a issue it takes a special kind of talent. A talent not many have.

Aaron Sorkin is one of those talents but they don't grow on tree's. Mostly because I don't think many of the writers really know what is really going on with a issue anymore than anyone else. Everyone is basically just making guesses and coming up with theories. People usually don't really know much about anything including smart people because figuring out people is really hard and almost impossible. We are to complex and issues are to complex to truly grasp. Not that it hasn't stopped any of us from trying to figure things out.:)

"Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger, can I take your order?"

(Even vegans dream of the Good Burger, sure meat with a face is totally murder, but a hippy can dream, y'know?)

The whole point of speculative fiction is that it is supposed to make some kind of commentary on human society. However, if it's too heavy-handed, then it may not be very enjoyable.

Is meat with a face because of some die on the grill?

And laboratory beef is coming. The PeTA protest against it is already underway, totally invalidating their position. How can you be treating animals unethically if no animals are harmed?

We saw them make a meatsuit in The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

No animals.

Totally synthetic.

You gotta wonder if a Terminator tastes like chicken?

(They would have to be poisonous, just to kill any hungry hungry human dumb enough to try making a snack from a cyborg.)

PETA has shelters that kill more animals than they save and have funded terrorists, so yeah they are just a group of assholes.

PETA need protests to survive. If they don't make a big show of themselves, people forget about them and don't think to give them their hard-earned money.

That blond lady in the movie has lots of noticeable scaring on her body in the photos, wondering if she's like Marcus and some kind of cyborg.
