Yep. Which is the best thing they could possibly do.
According to Variety, that's only a placeholder and the series will have a more specific title to be unveiled at a later date.

Just to clarify . . . .
The bit about it taking place after ST VI is just a rumor at this point; it hasn't been officially confirmed. And the idea that there's no Enterprise . . . again, that's just speculation.
And "Vanguard" is the name of a STAR TREK book series. It has nothing to do with the new TV series.
Honestly, we don't know anything about what the new show is about, when it's set, or any of that yet, even though the internet is awash with theories and wild guesses.
My advice? Don't believe anything you hear about the new series until it's announced officially, even when people throw around words like "confirmed" or "reliable sources."
That "reliable source" is Variety magazine. And like with any source that isn't CBS itself, it should be taken with a grain of salt.
That info has already been known for several months. Meyer has even made official statements.
Perhaps you're thinking of the U.S.S. Franklin from Star Trek Beyond?
Not likely as it would conflict with ST TOS... unless TOS is adapted to The Other Series
That esoterica only matters to fans. And it didn't stop Paramount from naming their first nuTrek film Star Trek. CBS can call the show whatever they want.
No one cares.
From CBS's POV any brand confusion between the nuTrek movies, TOS and their new series works in their favor.
OTOH, if at some point they want to spin off a successor TV series to this one, that would be a time to add some kind of subtitle.
There were three television series, two movies and one radio series all titled Dragnet - just Dragnet.
Variety is reporting that it will have a more specific title unveiled later. It's not official confirmation from CBS, but that's about as official as you can get otherwise. If Variety has sources and is comfortable reporting that, I'll believe them.

They could always take a page out of the 70s big screen thinking and call it Star Trek: The Streaming Serial
