I love how it does look like the TOS communicator, but kind of the step between that and the ones in "The Cage" and "Where No Man Has Gone Before". Beautiful job! I want one now!

It's probably just being used in marketing materials for brand awareness. The Star Trek theme is well known. They will almost certainly have an original theme for Discovery.

I like the similarities to the flip grid on the Wrath of Khan communicators, which I have always imagined came before the TOS communicators, and were only being used because they were a cadet trainer.
