I found a bunch of New Coke at the last place I expected to see it: at the Dollar Store.

I love these flavors, but they are comparatively more expensive than buying the plain stuff in the regular cans.

I really wish they still made Coca Cola C2. It had half the sugar and tasted almost like regular Coke. I try to get Coke zero when I can but I'm still not used to the taste.
I haven't found a sugar substitute that tastes decent compared to sugar or even HFCS, or one that's not much more unhealthy.
Depending on where you are I think it's now marketed as Coke Life.
I prefer the real thing but if I'm being good I drink Coke Zero but cannot stand Diet Coke.
I tried that one but it didn't seem as good. I think Coke Life has stevia in it and the C2 had splenda. I might give it another shot but I should probably just drink water.

Cherry Coke used to be Coke with grenadine in it. You could get it at the soda fountain in most drug stores.

I drink a lot of Mexican Coke these days (a lot = two a month. Maybe). Other than an occasional root beer it's the only soft drink I like. Yes, the cane sugar tastes different. Better.

Yes and it was good. The new version of Crystal Pepsi was nothing like it and tasted like crap.
Not all that surprising, actually. I think a lot of those stores sell surplus old stock that sometimes include discontinued items and slow movers when bigger outlets need to clear out for shelf space. Rather than waste all of it, having it go to stores like that kind of makes sense. Which means Timewalker's Pepsi Blue likely landed at dollar stores when it vanished elsewhere

My aforementioned friend says that the New Coke I bought tastes too bubbly and watered down. As if it came out of a fountain. So, apparently, it didn't taste different but there was more to the taste. It used to taste like a more potent version of what's being put out now.

I have no idea why it's "feisty." It has a different taste from other cherry-flavored pop I've tried. I don't know if it's because it's diet Coke or because of some other ingredients. I'm still new to this whole diet pop thing, and it's like my taste buds are learning a new language.

Well, it might have helped if they'd originally been kept in the pop aisle instead of on one of the corners near the frozen foods, but in that case I probably wouldn't have noticed it at all. I just found the last few cases by thinking maybe they moved it to the pop section after not being able to find it in its usual place, and there they were. There were just a few cases of cherry left, so I grabbed them.
Yes, these are the ones. Agreed, that they're pricey - costs more for just 8 smaller cans than for 12 regular sized ones. But I think part of the marketing is that they're tall and thin, so they're somehow 'healthier'. It's a way of appealing to the subconscious dieter's mind.
I just like the taste, and it's nice to have some variety.
This thread reminded me that in the 1980s glass soda bottles came out in a new, more squat shape with twist tops. Most of the bottle was encased in kind of a styrofoam capsule with the labelling on it. Kids would peel or pull off strips of the foam and make a mess. Well I did, anyway. I wonder what that innovation was about.
I remember this from my childhood, now that you mention it. I want to say New York Seltzer had that, but I could be remembering wrong. Memories are flooding back to me of gleefully ripping those foam covers to shreds.

That one wasn't available here. Not that I'd have been inclined to try it, since I avoid all orange-flavored stuff (with the exception of orange-flavored Milk 2 Go; that tasted like a drinkable Creamsicle, which was wonderful).
To make it less likely for the bottle to break if dropped, I should imagine.
Yeah probably, but why? Just guessing, but since they were one-use, disposable bottles, the glass was probably thinner and cheaper than the old return-for-deposit kind. Also perhaps better for single purchases, since you didn't need the divided cardboard
