Nemesis and Jeri Ryan

Methuselah Flint

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Been reading up on a couple of things...

Assuming facts are correct (just for the moment), who do you think Ryan was set to replace, as she has specifically said it wasn't Sirtis (though she may have been referred to during Sirtis' negotiations)?

Let's discount Mulgrew, as it's implied Ryan had a bigger part than a cameo.

Thoughts?

Worf would make sense, then he could still be ambassador and she could be the new head of security.

I thought it was just a cameo? The story I heard was that Seven was supposed to be a guest at the Riker-Troi wedding, which Jeri Ryan refused saying "that makes no sense, Seven doesn't know these people."

So with that in mind, had she done the movie it would have been Kate Mulgrew who would have been absent.

The wedding cameo was a second offer after Ryan turned down the role they first proposed. Ryan said that they originally wanted her to replace a member of the regular crew.

Edit:

I told them if there was a reason for this character to appear in the story, then absolutely. If there was a good story reason, then absolutely, but she never interacted with any of the characters on [Star Trek: The Next Generation], she’s never met them. Why would she be there? They would be plugging her in just to plug her in. It was just odd. So it wasn’t the right thing to do…They understood, but then he was like "Do you want to do a cameo at the wedding?" And I was like "no, if I don’t want to be in the movie, why would I want to do a cameo."

That was never mentioned to me. They did offer a role in Nemesis, to replace a different character. It was not Marina. I’m not mentioning it, because it was ridiculous. There was absolutely no reason to replace this character with Seven of Nine, so obviously we didn’t do it. So, it was not Marina, for the record.

I wonder if it was going to be in a cameo at the end of the new 1st officer (Steven Culp/Bobby Kennedy) ? which ended up a deleted scene. The only (main) character could think of would be worf/security? but then why would the studio/writers be wanting to sacrifice worf? He was probably the 3rd most popular character.

At the wedding I guess shed have just been there or to replace Guinan or Wesley? idk

Paramount may as well have had her do it.(i.e so much $ she couldn't refuse) at least itd have been an interesting element/character to the movie..instead of fake young Picard clone and another Data clone (again)

It would have made total sense if she'd been Barclay's +1! Two socially awkward souls with a personal connection to Voyager, finding their own Undiscovered Country... of amore. And Barclay would no doubt have been invited, so, it all adds up. :p

Seven appearing even briefly (she can have met characters for the first time off-screen, time and events do happen off-screen), especially interacting with Picard and Data, would have been a cool way to bring up and tie to the Borg (both FC and that things have changed since then) and generally, maybe, to Voyager and the idea of passing on the torch to other crews. Too bad Ryan then wasn't interested in trying to have a crossover.

AFAIK, Jeri Ryan was to play a small role in "Nemesis", with Seven providing some specialised technical knowledge to Picard and, when she turned it down, the scene became a cameo for Kate Mulgrew as Admiral Janeway.

No, she wasn't interested in a meaningless cameo that would likely have been as much about putting her figure on camera as her character.

It didn't have to be meaningless, it could have been cool to see what she was doing about a year after Voyager and also interacting with a former Borg and an android, but with being written by John Logan (kind of including given how he instead wrote Janeway) it probably would have been.
