Any other fans of this show? I discovered it over Christmas when some channel was running a marathon and since broke down and bought the dvd's.

Working my way through season 1 right now. Have to say it's the character inetractions and humour more than the "procedural" aspects. Big fan of Abbey!

Anybody else into this show? Have a favorite season?

Please please please avoid spilers if possible :)

There's a weekly episode thread going on here if the episode is new.

Were the JAG spinoff episodes at the front of the NCIS first season set? I never saw those.

I'm a huge NCIS fan. I'm not sure what it is about the show but there is soemthing really special about it that makes me love it. I don't like any other crime procedurals; as a matter of fact I avoid 'em like the plague. I think Mark Harmon's Gibbs plays a big part in it as he's an interesting character. As you go on in the show he gets even more interesting so I look forward to reading what you think of it.

Thanks for the heads up on the episode thread. I'll look it up.

As to your question, the Jag episodes are not included on any of the dvd sets unfortunately. Here's hoping they show up on future releases.

^ I didn't even know there were JAG episodes to prep for the spinoff.

I'm a huge fan of this show too. Don't think I have a favorite season - really, they are all good.

Yep. Harmon Rabb was accused of murdering Lieutenant Loren Singer (David James Elliot's real life wife) and Jethro Gibbs and the NCIS team were assigned to investigate the murder. It also involved Gibbs and Company investigating a terrorist attack.

Also in the episodes was a character named Vivian Blackadder, but the character was removed and replaced by Kate Todd because Bellisario didn't think she was a good fit for series television
But Kate Todd's actress would leave the series at the end of season two anyway.

The episodes were Ice Queen and Meltdown.

*bounce bounce bounce*

Did someone say NCIS?!

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways:

1. Mark Harmon :adore:
2. Mark Harmon
3. Stories
4. Character interaction
5. Mark Harmon :drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

So yeah, I've watched it from the beginning and I absolutely love it!! I watch lots of shows but it's the only one that I practically freak out if I miss an episode. Thankfully with the invention of the DVR, I don't miss any anymore. :bolian:

hehe, well for me I think Abby is pretty cute (the character and the actress).

I'll try to post thoughts as I make my way through the dvd's. The tv marathon that got me hooked were episodes from season 3 so I have a taste for what's to come. Just hoping to enjoy the ride. It seems like a special kind of show. And as I'm always preaching about other shows, it's all about the character and the humour. And this show has it in spades.

And Abby's cute... I'm just gonna keep mentioning that :)

^She is cute. I love her (although I'm assuming for different reasons that you do). And you feel free, I will mention at least 15-20 times per week how hot and sexy Mark Harmon is. :bolian:

Deal! Sounds like a fair trade to me :)

Actually, didn't they re-edit Ice Queen and used it during the first season? I seem to remember a one hour version of the episode.

^ I don't believe so. I do know there was a fan edit that removed the JAG portions and focused on the NCIS side of things.

Hrm. Wikipedia says:
The program and its characters are introduced during the eighth season of JAG. The JAG episodes, "Ice Queen" and "Meltdown", served as pilot episodes for the show. The character Special Agent Vivian Blackadder (Robyn Lively) does not appear in the series because producer Donald Bellisario felt that "she was a little soft for this kind of role".[2] In October 2003, the two episodes were edited together and aired as "Navy NCIS: The Beginning".[3]

So who knows.

I discovered NCIS this year on holiday - in Greece of all places. We wanted a night in after dinner and turned on the tv to see if Greek tv had any US imports that we could while away a couple of hours with on the balcony. They were showing NCIS (dubbed, I think). Anyway, watched a couple of episodes, then came home and bought seasons 1-4 over Christmas at rock bottom prices. I really enjoy this show. I don't know why because the characters can be really shitty to each other. I like Gibbs and Ab's relationship, and Ducky's sweet. I prefer Kate to Ziva.

I'll go on the record by saying that I couldn't stand NCIS initially. Everything about it seemed as though it was a cheap CSI rip-off at first glance - like let's just play with the letters and put it in a military context.
I also couldn't believe how the characters interacted and actually perceived it as horribly bad writing at first.

So I tuned out and stayed out for a while. By chance I caught another episode later on and finally caught on to the really weird and quirky sense of humor this show has. As somebody else said, it's really in the characters and their interactions. It's totally over the top, but that's really part of the appeal, I think.

I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I always find the show very entertaining when I tune in. And how can one not like seeing DiNozzo being ridiculed and smacked on the head :D.

Its definately the humor that gets me. They can do a deathly serious storyline then suddenly throw in some amazingly goofy line or bit of business. Reminds me a lot of Peter Davids writing.

But the character teasing does get a bit much though. I'm always feeling bad about how everyone treats McGee.

And well, I guess I do have kind of a man crush on Mark Harmon. :alienblush:

Which very early on gave rise to one-liner from DiNizzo. When asked if NCIS was like the CSI reply came back "only if you're dyslexic".
