Most terrible character in DS9?

At first sight i would answer this question with Kai Winn Adami. But during our rewatch of tng i changed my mind: its Keiko O'Brien. This only one episode as a pah wraith ind ds9 influenced my way of seeing Keiko so heavily. Everytime i see her in tng and in DS9 , i can only see her wraith version.

Terrible in what way? In terms of what their characters did, how they were played, what stories they were involved in?

Dukat was terrible, he murdered millions.

You could argue that Vorta in general are brainwashed, but we also saw evidence that Weyoun would actually go behind the founders backs (at least setting aside their wishes - as seen in Treachery, Faith and the Great River)

And of course the changelings in general, the Martok one encouraged a massive war, the main "Female Changeling"

In terms of underutilized characters, Jake was probably the worse of the main - it's impressive how well rounded the main characters were while also having as many fleshed out supporting characters, especially compared to Voyager. I think Moogie got more character growth than Tuvok.

Keiko and Molly conflicted with a fair amount of what they wanted to do with O'Brien. I'm glad they didn't just take the easy option and either bump her off or divorce.

I didn't care for Vic Fontaine.

I'd generally agree, but he allowed some key episodes to be made - especially His Way and Paper Moon.

In every way you like. My answer as an example is my real but surprising and emotional response to Keiko, more than anyone else.

I don't think it's fair to blame Keiko for being possessed by a demon. She didn't ask for it. The rest of the time she was a very understanding spouse, who wanted only a chance to have her botany career and even accepted moving to DS9 to help Miles' career knowing that would limit her opportunities. I'm glad DS9 showed them working out a compromise that reflected real married life - neither of them getting everything they wanted, but both getting something they could live with.

Do you also blame Kirk for what he did when he was possessed by Dr. Lester?

I'd still stick with Winn as the most terrible character. She realized, eventually, that she'd been talking to the Pah wraiths, and she could have renounced them and followed the Prophets. She preferred to keep her power and follow the Pah wraiths.

edit: fixed a typo

Eh, most Trek characters have been possessed and done something bad. Miles and Keiko both have, that's why they work as a couple so well. ;)

It really has nothing to do at all with an objective view on things. Of course there are characters much more worse than Keiko. But Rosalind Chao left a deep impression in me as a pah. Therefore my personal response.

I can't find any "most terrible character" in DS9.

I mean, Kai Winn was an excellent villain.

When it comes to Keiko, I actually like her. OK, sometimes she came out as a bit whining but the "Miles-Keiko marrioed couple" was actually nice and realistic. They really cared for each other and I would find it hard to watch the series without it.

Vic Fontaine was a great character too. he was nice, friendly and helpful. Nothing wrong with such characters in an adventure series.

I must admit that I wasn't that fond of Jake back in the days when I first watched the series, however it was just in season 1.

When I finally got the chance to watch the whole series I changed my opinion about him. Great character.

The only characters I could have lived without were those genetically enchanced characters who showed up in some episodes. They were a bit annoying.

Q, yes, but at least they only had him on for long enough for him to get the punch in the face he's had coming for so long.

Agreed. In fact, I couldn't think of any really poor characters until I was reminded of him. He left so little of an impression that I had completely forgotten about him.
I don't think that he was that bland.
He was mostly in the background and disappeared from the series rather quick.

Lieutenant George Primmin, Starfleet Security Chief for 2 episodes in Season 1. Only point of the character was to annoy Odo... Said 'Odo' as a noise rather than a name, and no one should be allowed to use the word 'bailiwick' on network television.

He had several episodes in the first three seasons where he played a large role. There was plenty of space between those episodes. I'm not sure why they brought a mirror universe version of him back in the later seasons. It's not like he was a popular character. Gotta do something with those 26 episodes.

I actually struggle to find a terrible character on DS9. 'Terrible' as in villainous, absolutely. But 'terrible' as in just a bad character? Hard to say.

I've seen Bareil mentioned, but I actually have to disagree. When I was young, I DID find him boring. However, as I've gotten older, I've come to realize that what I perceived as blandness was really just a centered, peaceful, zen-like quality that he exuded because he felt such a peace within himself. I'd also argue he was one of the most selfless characters on DS9... he took the fall so Opaka's name would never be tainted and he died to help create the peace treaty with Cardassia. I would say he was a heroic character, really.

Same with Keiko... good character. Most realistic portrayal of a marriage in the franchise. And she was a good wife. As I've gotten older, and married, I have definitely come to appreciate her more. "HARD TIME", for instance... she never pushed him toward normalcy, and was supportive the entire time. Even when he slept on the floor, she didn't wake him to go back to bed... she simply put covers over him and let him be. But she also called him out when he went too far when O'Brien yelled at Molly. Supportive, but knowing where the line was and making sure he didn't cross it. Very, very good wife and character.

If I recall correctly, there was a Stargate: Atlantis episode that played with that concept.
There was, in season 2. Called "DUET", Lt. Cadman (I believe that was her name) and McKay were picked up by a Wraith ship and when he was brought out of the beam, her consciousness was in his head at the same time.

It was unusual in its lack of B plot. Most interesting part of the episode to me was Quark and Kira and the cargo bay, with Quark helping out in his own way.
