Dukat's Character Arc

It would have been nice if in the end Dukat would have been a good guy like Damar.
Quoting myself here because....
I don't know what exactly Dukat did during the occupation.
Was he a monster who did some hideous thing towards Bajorans?
He was in charge only during the last few years of the occupation, right?
Well, that's enough time to do all kinds of nasty things.

I wonder if Dukat is dead dead or if he's jamming with the Pah Wraiths. An eternity in whatever that entails might not be something he'd enjoy, which is nice. :)
Which opens the possibility of Dukat and Sisko interacting on another plane.

Although even if Dukat is fo' reals dead, they could still possibly interact. What with Sisko's non-linearity. ;)

Dukat was far, far too much of a malignant narcissist to fully self-reflect and change for the better (Damar showed more signs of being a better person behind his own Fascistic war criminal facade)

And while Dukat was still capable of kindness and empathy on rare occasion, he kept on having bigger and bigger relapses back into militancy and imperialism (he just got worse and worse the more his emotional state, empathy, and rationality frayed).

Yeah, I've always interpreted that to mean: in a kind of hellish realm. (also given the fire he seems to fall into)

But even if not, the Pah Wraiths probably aren't the most pleasant company.
Yeah, Sisko sent Dukat through a literal porthole to Hell.

I really disliked how they made him into some sort of a comic book supervillain type. He was more interesting and complex as an antihero.

I didn't find Waltz very interesting. Dukat was a great villain before, now he's just going insane. There's no reasoning, no good dialogue, nothing you can do with someone as crazy as he was in Waltz. But masquerading as a Bajoran and making their leader literally sleep with the enemy was a return to disgrace ;)

The real problem I had with scenario is that instead of acknowledging Dukat's lack of sanity, Sisko ended up declaring him as simply "evil". As far as Dukat was concerned, that was the end for me.

As much as I love DS9, the one thing that always intensly bothered me was the handling of my favorite character Gul Dukat, in season 7. His character progression was so natural, and to me his best moment was in the episode Waltz. He seemingly rips his mask off and admits that he never cared about the lives of bajorans and wished he was worse to them.
Dukat was a complex character, but by this time he was clearly falling into madness (he was seeing people) and thus simplified his logic to an absolutist level.

However, that line of "I SHOULD HAVE KILLED THEM ALL" was heavy.

The episode was delightful and necessary, but I think they took Dukat too far evil. Listen, I know he's evil to an extent, but the complexity is that he simply acts in Cardassian morality. He has tons of weak spots of empathy and simpathy he displays throughout the series. It was at times difficult to completely write him off, because the moment you thought he was just another bad guy, he would do something that would make you halt for a second.

I wish he was able to be reformed into an anti-hero or at the very least a neutral character. His later arc was kinda eh on the writing for me.

Dukat became a more evil person than Khan imo.
Just a thought...
Well, yeah. Dukat was responsible for the deaths of millions of Bajoran civilians during the Occupation, and don't forget betraying his own country to the Dominion. As well as attempted individual murderer of Mika in "Covenant" because she might not keep the secret of his rape. What did Khan do? Just take over the Enterprirse for a while, and then try it again in TWOK. Well, Chekov's earworm. Not even close to Dukat.
