Max Payne 3....*Sigh*

Ugh. That looks horrendous.

The noir is almost completely gone and that guy looks NOTHING like Max Payne.

I actually think its sort of cool that they are evolving the character. It reminds me of how Sam Fisher has changed over the years in the Splinter Cell games or how Chris and Jill have aged in the Resident Evil games

Isn't Max Payne based on a real dude at Remedy? Can Rockstar use the same image anyway? Or do you basically sell your likeness with the IP?

IIRC, the first Max Payne was based on a dude at Remedy, while the second Max Payne was based on an actor.

So when people complain that this new character model looks nothing like Max Payne, my first thought is: "which one?"

Edit: turns out I did recall correctly. The first model for Max was Sam Lake, the game's writer. The second model was actor Timothy Gibbs.

Ah, there ya go I guess.

Still, I think Hobo Payne looks like ass. At least Ubi Montreal dialed back the homeless look on Sam Fisher.

I have to say--I'm a little put off by the bitterly conservative attitudes that some people are expressing in this thread.

Sounds to me like some people don't want a new game at all--just new levels for an old game.

Way to send the industry the right message, guys.

Welcome to fandom. ;)

I liked bullet time better in MP1, myself, so that was already taken away by MP2, for me.

The graphics for MP3 look pretty sweet and while I'm not really feeling the whole bald/heavy beard thing, as long as there's a decent 4th wall-crossing voice-over narrative and awesome comicstrip cutscenes, I'm there.

And Mona should be dead. Max Payne doesn't win his games, he barely survives them while everything he's come to love and depend on have been stripped away.

Oh, and the movie sucked all kinds of ass. What is so hard about lifting a plot ready made from a classic game like Max Payne? Everything was already there, guys. Christ, Sin City was more like Max Payne (if only in spirit and tone) than Marky Mark's shitfest. Ugh. I hate Hollywood.

yeah, Bruce Willis as Hartigan played a better Max Payne than Marky

what I love about Max Payne is how it's really depressing while it still has tons of humor. Captain Baseballbat Boy, Lords and Ladies, Dick Justice

Not to mention those fantastic "I couldn't believe it. I was in a graphic novel\video game" sequences in the first game.
