Life without pets

I have two cats. A few years back I kept a different cat for 6 years, but I had to have him rehoused because I was moving to another country and count take him.

So that was hard, but I went without and knew he was okay with a new family.

But yeah, now I have two and they are excellent. Totally different personalities and very funny. I love animals.

The older cat is the ginger, a girl called Margo. The younger is our lovely black boy, called Lenny.

Adopt, don't shop.

Absolutely. Both my cats are street-rescued.

We had one of the caricature artists at Disneyland draw Loki yesterday:

Update on what I wrote on here before. I said once our old cat died we were talking about getting a kitten. But our cat is 15 now and she still seems to have a lot of life in her yet, she still plays and does her things. And we hope she does live a long while more. But when she is finally gone on we are talking about not getting a kitten but more a young cat like between 1-3 years of age and that will be it. So no more kittens just too much for us at this point to care for I think. And we don't want a cat to outlive us because we don't know anyone to take the cat. It seems we know a ton of dog people and also a lot of people that are allergic to cats. How are things going on this for you? Have you decided what you are going to do? Just wondering...

I have been without any cat for two and a half months now and, though I hate to say it, I am quite enjoying it. Having to look after two elderly and sick cats over the last few years had been a strain. Spider who died in 2020 aged 17 had been diagnosed with diabetes when he was 13. So for 4 years I had to be home to give him his daily insulin and also to test his blood. When he was 15 he developed hypothyroidism which I gather is quite common in elderly, neutered male cats. I had to give him daily tablets for that.
Early last year Georgy was also diagnosed with hyperthyroidism so we had to give him daily tablets. It was more difficult to give him tablets than it was to give them to Spider.

Not having to worry about their illnesses has really reduced my stress levels so I am pretty certain that we won’t get any more pets.

I do sometimes wish I could have pets, but there are so many factors against it. I don't really have much money (vet visits can becomes extremely costly extremely fast), I don't have a driver's license and I can't afford a taxi all the time (yes I could take the tram/train, but what happens when something happens to my pet at a time when trams and trains aren't running or when time is really of the essence etc etc), I don't live anywhere near any pet store, so getting the food would be a hassle as well (deliveries cost extra and most stores here don't deliver in the first place, at least not to small villages like mine)... and so on and so on.

And then there's the emotional factors that are involved. If there's any pet I'd like to have it would be guinea pigs, but the deaths of the piggies I had a few years ago STILL hurt, and I don't think I can go through this kind of thing again.

After almost 3-1/2 years without cats, I have adopted a pair of them, kittens from the same litter. Can't do photos, but one of them is handsome and sleek and dark gray, and the other is s chocolate tortie female with an incredible purr.

Glad to have reached the end of my "no-pets" journey and started this new one.

I don't have cats myself but one of my friends has two British shorthairs, they're brothers and utterly hilarious and my brother also has a cat so I get my share of cat interactions. :D
That's me and dogs. My parents and sister have dogs, and I enjoy spending time with them. I'm away from my place a lot, so having a dog of my own is problematic for me. Cats are lower-maintainence.

Sorry, for some reason the images in your post didn't show, so I checked the formatting and must have clicked the Submit button by mistake. Everything's normal now. Both of your cats look absolutely adorable.

No apology necessary. Just confused.

I have three now!
