I just noticed there's a new trailer out. Keeping an open mind.

Looks like fun, although I am a little disappointed they appear to have gotten rid of all of the other masters.

It's rather difficult in my case. The Jack Black factor, plus having three more sequels than THE DEPARTED, etc, etc.....

It did seem odd they don't feature much at all in the trailer, aside from Shifu. I'm assuming at the moment that doesn't mean they'll be mostly absent, as the series has always had a strength in the ensemble element.

Mitchell stated that Masters Tigress, Monkey, Crane, Mantis and Viper, known collectively as the Furious Five, will make an appearance in the film and that they are "off on their own individual missions", with producer Rebecca Huntley confirming that there will be "a glimpse of the Furious Five".

Sounds like they only make a cameo.

Seems to be a trend. The second spinoff TV series, KFP: The Paws of Destiny on Amazon Prime, had Po, Mr. Ping, Master Oogway, and characters from the third movie, but didn't include the Five or Shifu. And the third series, The Dragon Knight on Netflix, features no previously established characters besides Po and Mr. Ping (although Jack Black returned as Po after Mick Wingert played him in the previous two TV shows).

I'm less familiar with some of the spinoff series, but I'm keeping an open mind. :) I remember when Ralph Breaks The Internet came out, some fans were a bit disappointed that Felix and Calhoun had a very small role relative to the first film. But for my part, I think that worked in balance with the main focus on the evolution of Ralph and Vanellope's friendship.

Legends of Awesomeness was relatively good, but had kind of low-budget animation with simplified settings and a lot of reused character designs. It didn't fit perfectly with movie canon, since Master Shifu didn't have a limp, and Po was portrayed as more naive and inexperienced than he should've been by the end of the first movie.

I haven't seen The Paws of Destiny. The Dragon Knight is uneven; there are things I don't like about it, such as being such a massive departure from the movies (nearly 3/4 of it is a world tour beyond China, visiting anthropomorphic-animal versions of India, Mesoamerica, and England), but it has some very good character writing at times.

Interesting to note that James Hong is the only cast member who appears consistently in every film and TV series in the franchise. Most of the movie characters were recast on TV, except Lucy Liu's Master Viper, who only appeared in the first TV series.

Well, at least the other masters won't be totally absent.
I've only seen the movies, so I didn't realize their role was being reduced like that.

OMG, I'm so in. Even aside from the fun, the artistry in these films is downright beautiful.
