Hulu confirms The Orville Season 4

exactly how do you know that Sage 's relationship ended AFTER she left the show?

where is your source

Pictures of the two of them in public together continued to circulate for three or four months after her departure.

Afaik nothing official was confirmed or communicated by Hulu. It was a remark by Scott Grime and that site runs with it for views with a misleading title...

A little bit more than that - it showed up on the Canadian FTIA Production List in late October, with a planned production start of January 6, 2025.

However, no additional information or updates to the FTIA entry have been made since then, and that start date is about two weeks away. That doesn't augur well, but it's still worth keeping an eye on.

So any word on if it actually started???

And not sure what services we will have when it comes back....

Please tell me they got the editors back for this season. I always had trouble with the show's slow pacing, but Season 3 was just ridiculous. Any time there was a speech, wedding, or eulogy, you saw the WHOLE THING, start to finish. The cutting floor exists for a reason.

That said it'll be nice to see the crew of the Orville again. I hope Talla and Alara end up interacting.

Seeing a few bits of info floating out from Orville's subreddit this morning, confirmed by the show's official podcast that works with the production:

  • Adrianne Palicki will not be back and has been written out of the show. There are no plans for guest appearances at this time.
  • A second "key player" will also not return, but has not been confirmed who it is.
  • Unknown whether Bortus will be advanced to First Officer.
  • A new character will be added to the show, but they will be played by an actor who has already appeared.
  • The sets have to be completely rebuilt from scratch after being struck following wrap on season 3's production. Sounds like the only piece of set that still exists is the Helm console that Seth kept. Doug Drexler may be involved with the art department again.

All this makes me even more MEH

Very disappointed we're losing cast members, but it's not a huge shock given the amount of time since New Horizons.

can remember reading a long time back about the difference between a fold n hold and striking the sets and usually the latter is a kiss of death for a show being resurrected because it adds to the cost.

now yes, season 4 hasn't entered full production but I wonder if they would push for at least an S5 is they're going to the expense of set reconstruction.

or in this day and age perhaps the cost of set construction isn't what it once was.

Well, that sucks. At least in the first two seasons, Ed and Kelly were the center of the show. I would say without one, the show is meaningless, but then season 3 virtually ignored the fact they were a couple and outside of a few throwaway references, someone new to the show that year could understandably not know they were married at some point. So it's obvious the show was already dropping the importance of Ed and Kelly anyway.

Though, on the other hand, I'm going to assume Kelly's departure will be explained as she got promoted and is now Captain of her own ship, which would make sense and would help avoid her falling into "Riker Syndrome" where despite seeing she is an extremely capable Executive Officer, she stays stuck in the same job unrealistically long and turns down promotion offers all the time.

Does this mean a completely new character played by someone who was on the show, or a character who was on the show previously being added to the main cast? I ask because of the rumor going around months ago, which I think was mentioned in this thread that Giorgia Whigham's character was going to be main cast in S4.

Assuming the subreddit report is accurate (hardly a reliable source but could be potentially true), I'm sorry the show is losing Adrianne Palicki. She's definitely one of the best cast members of the show and Kelly's absence will definitely hurt.

New character, recurring actor. Sounds like a Jeffrey Combs situation.

That was what I thought of when I read the sentence, but the way it's phrased suggests a returning actor playing a different character -- perhaps someone who played a human returning as an alien under prosthetics, or vice versa, or someone playing a different prosthetic alien than before. Although the sentence could just be misleadingly written.

Palicki had said it was unlikely that she'd want to do the show again. It was a lot of commitment and difficult scheduling for work that wasn't wildly remunerative.

Still haven't watched the third season, but if McFarlane was out and Palicki was still in, I'd be more likely to watch a fourth season.

Man, does Seth know where the bodies are buried or something? I mean, I'm happy for Orville fans, but to come back after this long, having to rebuild all the sets. Doing all this for a show that wasn't terribly successful..... Seth clearly still has some pull with the studio.

Well, he's been very successful in his overall career, though The Orville is the only thing he's done that I actually like.
