Kid friendly lan games

I have looked all over the tubes and I cant find jack, anyone got a leed on a kid friendly lan game I can get my kids to play rather then CNC Renegade all the time. Its an oldy but a damn good one; however, their a little young to be playing a FPS like that.

Ideas?

How old are they? I played all kinds of gory games when I was young, Unreal Tournament, Quake and I turned out ok... I'll see if I can find you a good child safe video game you can play on a LAN, but I have to go stash these bodies first and get some clean clothes on.

I used to play RTS games a lot when I was a kid. Especially C&C: Red Alert.

I second the "how old are they?" query, though.

Well, I'm open. I dont mind them playing Renegade to get their FPS kicks, i'd like to open their horizons to something else that isn't a FPS.

Their 8 and 4. Yeah, they probably shouldn't be playing Renegade either, but heck they like it and its better then them watching me play Fallout.

I should add I'm play testing BZFlag and Red Ace Squadron Pro right now. I like Red Squadron because its a simple lan flight sim they can play against each other or alone. Simple is better for the four year old.

I sometimes have the larger problem that I didn't get my first computer until I was in the 7th grade (and probably one of the only people in my grade to have one). They know more about how to operate a computer then I did when I was 8....Hell I dont even think I knew what a computer was when I was 8.

I'd recommend a good strategy game, then, for sure. They're a little smarter and less twitch-based than an FPS, but can still be fast-paced and interesting. Though they might honestly be over the head of a four year-old.

I'm not so sure about the 8 year old. He has a mind like a steel trap. Maybe rusty someties, but hell sometimes he surprises me on what he crasps.

For instance, he is really observant....almost annoyingly so. In any case, he can understand the play mechanics and purpose of Jagged Alliance 2, even hacked to 1.13. He can't kill Dianana or capture a mine. But, he understands what he is suppose to do.

I used to have lots of fun playing Birth of the Federation over a LAN with friends back in university. Kid-safe, for sure, and you get to indoctrinate them in Star Trek too!

Just make sure it's patched and the auto-save is turned on to cope with the inevitable occasional crashes.
