Just watched First Contact on Blu-ray, and my God they remastered it!

The Rock

I was expecting it to look better than the DVD version, but I never expected a remaster of it! I was blown away with how great it looked. Hell, I must've seen it like eight or nine times in the theater (true story; I love First Contact that much) and not even that looked this good!

The most notable things that stood out to me about the remaster were:

- The part at the beginning where Picard is saying his log, and the Enterprise is flying away from the nebula. It looks beautiful.

- During the Borg battle at the beginning, when the Borg cube flies over the camera, it looks so good that you can actually see parts of the inside of it. I was amazed.

- The daytime shots of the wooded area around the missile silo. Fantastic!

So bottom line is that for all of you who love First Contact, you have got to see the Blu-ray version of it. You will be stunned, I promise you.

Sounds cool, thanks for the info.

Re: Just watched First Contact on Blu-ray, and my God they remastered

Yes indeed, it is a very nice transfer as are the other TNG blu-rays.

I was quite pleased with the transfer on 'First Contact.' I'd say of the four films, 'Insurrection' probably looks the weakest, which is strange considering all those gorgeous mountains and other locations, but it's still quite an improvement over the DVD versions.

First Contact really does look great - especially Data. They really took a lot of time with his make up.

Of the TNG movies, First Contact looks amazing.

Re: Just watched First Contact on Blu-ray, and my God they remastered

First Contact and Nemesis are the best of the 4 in terms of PQ, with some excellent detail to be seen in places - a definite bump up from all previous home video releases. Watching on a very large screen, I do feel application of noise reduction is slightly over zealous in both Generations and Insurrection - particularly the former. However, they are still far superior to the DVD versions.

Re: Just watched First Contact on Blu-ray, and my God they remastered

Some screen grabs would be nice, for those of us who never plan to see the film again. Or don't own the the Blu-ray (not going to convert, etc).

Re: Just watched First Contact on Blu-ray, and my God they remastered

Looked at them last night.

While they certainly are very nice, they don't, however, don't do the film's quality justice for some reasons:

Just how many perfect wrinkles do we need to see on Stewart's face? A tad bity distracting. I'll take a VHS shot of that.

The E "glory" shot reminds you that the background appears to be nothing more than a high quality painting.

The Borg eye thingy -- now you can see how cheap the production on it was.

Borg Queen -- same as Picard, now you can see how many wrinkles she has. Sometimes too much detail isn't that great a thing.
