I'm about to get Lost

The season three finale had one of the greatest plot twists in television history. A show with lesser writers might have only allowed its main characters to get off the island at the very end, but this show did it halfway through the series. Brilliant!

The next two seasons are my favorite seasons in the show. You are in for a treat.

I was spoiled as well, kind of. I knew they got off the Island around Season 3 and I knew FlashForwards were coming. This episode had a different tone to earlier flashbacks, so I put two and two together.

I wasn't all that surprised by it, but mostly because I have lived in a world where Lost has been on since 2004. I knew that Flash Forwards were coming up and I knew they were getting off the Island. So, knowing that happened, I put two and two together the second I saw Jack with a beard. Nice turn around with the fact that he remains fairly clean shaven on the island, yet when he gets home, he ends up growing a beard. Regardless of what I knew, it was very well done, which is all I can really ask for.

The Beginning of The End

Wow... where to start. They've split up before and have been divided on countless issues, but this is different. This time it's for real. The real kicked is Hurley seemingly betray Jack, as at times Hurley seemed to blindly follow Jack.

This is a Hurley episode and such as with most Hurley episodes, I really enjoyed it. It appears that they're denying the existence of the other survivors, which leads me to believe that the "Oceanic 6" are the survivors that made it out. So far we know Jack, Kate and Hurley... Since Hurley went with Locke's group it appears that anything goes. So my other guesses are Sawyer, Claire and Aaron. Sawyer because I believe that's who Kate was referencing last episode and since Desmond saw Claire and Aaron get on a helicopter, I'd assume them too.

Good episode and good start to an entirely different direction. I'm interested in the guy who came to see Hurley. I think there may be a lot more to him.

Confirmed Dead

Let's see... so far, I like the newbies. This show does a pretty bang up job when introducing new characters (as long as they're not named Nikki or Paolo). In the main cast right now, we have 9 people off of Oceanic 815 and 7 people who weren't. In a show about a plane crash, that means a lot of characters added on. And I am drawn to these characters just as much if not more so than I am the plane crash people.

Also, I'll put all my money that Michael is Ben's guy on the boat. I don't know why or what happened to him after he left, but I've noticed Harold Perrineau's name in the credits, so I know he's returning this season.

The Economist

Okay, this flash forward made me question the nature of the flash forwards entirely. Are they a possible future or are they set in stone? I can see Jack and Hurley being like they are in the future, but this isn't the Sayid that I've come to know and love over the course of the show, which makes the whole flashforward thing uncomfortable. But in a good way. It's my theory that the person the girl is working for is the black guy from Hurley's flash forward. For some reason he seems like he's connecting everything. I'd also argue that he's exploiting Daniel, Charlotte, Miles and Frank as they seem to be there for other reasons.

And what's this with Sayid working for Ben? I'm not entirely sure with the nature of Ben, but I can't imagine Sayid working for him. I highly doubt Ben counts as part of the Oceanic Six, but Sayid does, so there throws my theory out of the water. I'll take Sawyer out and replace him with Sayid. So my Oceanic Six is Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Claire and Aaron. Let's see if that holds up.

Eggtown

Well it's a Kate episode, but with a FlashForward and not a FlashBack, so I don't hate this one. She's on trial which is kind of nice. The way the writers write Kate is that she's nigh infallible, which in seeing how much she screws up in any given episode, that is far from the truth. She also isn't exempt from punishment because of how "awesome" she was on the island.

We get to see more of the lie and this time we got the full lie. Eight survived the initial plane crash, but only six survived to make it off the island. Since I believe Aaron is one of the Oceanic Six along with Claire, that means three died with Aaron bringing the number up to six. However, I am clearly wrong as at the end we see that Kate has Aaron. Wtf?

Does this mean Claire dies before the end of the season? She rarely lets anyone but her (or Charlie) touch him and I don't think Claire is that attached to the island. So I'm wondering if Jack knows Aaron is his nephew or if he represents how he failed to save his mother. I suppose we'll find out soon enough.

The Constant

For a story that was almost entirely off the island, this is nearly a perfect episode of Lost, something Desmond has a habit of creating. Depending on the day, Live Together, Die Alone, Flashes Before Your Eyes, Catch-22, and now this one could easily make my top five. However, I don't rate it as highly as some of you people seem to. I saw an ign list that had this one as the best Lost episode ever. To me, Lost works best when the whole cast is featured, despite focusing on one. This was pretty much a Desmond solo episode, which doesn't really hurt this episode too much as Desmond I think has now taken the spot as my favorite character.

I don't know how they did this, but the Desmond/Penny relationship has been a relationship I have grown to deeply care about. I've never enjoyed relationships in fiction, especially on TV, because they never get the characters together that actually are right for each other (Willow and Tara are an exception, but she might be disqualified because she was created for her). It's especially impressive when we haven't seen much of Penny. And if you didn't feel something when Desmond called Penny and heard her voice for the first time in three years, you're not human.

Brilliant episode, easily the best of the fourth season thus far and definitely in the top ten Lost episodes that I have seen thus far. Unfortunately, it appears that Desmond doesn't factor much into the over all mytharc and these are simply good stories. I hope I'm wrong.

The Other Woman

FlashBacks really don't do it anymore now that we have the advent of FlashForwards. Especially when I didn't really care about this story. So Goodwin and Juliet were bed buddies. I may have cared if I knew Goodwin. He showed up in one episode back when The Others were 2 dimensional bad guys, so I don't really care for him. If it was Ethan, I may have care more or even Richard. However, true to Lost form, even the weak episodes have important plot points.

At the start, we are led to believe that our new friends are actually living up to Ben's warnings and that they're trying to gas the island. While the mystery isn't especially compelling (Let's just say, it's not The Hatch), it is certainly multi-faceted. We know that Dharma was there to try and discover the mystery of the island to use it to help mankind. With Penny's father on the boat, it could be purely financial. Who wouldn't want a beachfront resort on an island that can heal you? This theory would paint Ben in a positive light making him out to be the protector of the Island. That's why the Dharma people were killed, that's why The Smoke Monster was created (probably by Jacob).

That is also why the pregnancy thing is a problem and why they needed to steal people from the plane crash. They need to keep their people populated, so they can protect the island from these kinds of threats. As far as the four newbies go, I still think they are being exploited. Ben is being used as a scape goat to bring down the Island's defenses so Penny's father can take it.

So, I got some pretty massive theories from a throw-a-way episode...

Ji Yeon

Oh no... Sun's the final member of the Oceanic Six, which means there's no room for Jin. But why is Jin on his way to the hospital?!? So by the end we find out that this is an episode with a flashback and a flashforward and it's done really well. I kind of had a feeling this was the case because this makes the Oceanic Six: Jack, Kate, Sayid, Hurley, Sun and Aaron. And from the looks of it Jin is one of the supposed eight survivors. So sad...

The other part of this episode shows some dissent among Jack's group of people, especially with Sun. She appears to have good intuition about what's going on. I have to say that I'm on her side, although I don't think Daniel and Frank are bad people (not sure about Miles and Charlotte). Oh and Juliet is a BITCH. Yes, Jin needed to know, but you don't use something like that as leverage. I love Jin though and feel really bad for him.

So far the part I'm most interested in is the freighter with Sayid and Desmond on it. There's a lot of mystery surrounding all of this. So Ben Linus helped Widmore fake out the whole world with the Oceanic 815 crash? Brilliant. And it looks like I was right about Michael, but if Ben and Widmore are in league then what's his true purpose. Overall, I hope Michael ends up redeeming himself. He annoyed me, but he was harmless, not a killer.

Meet Kevin Johnson

Okay, I do feel bad for Michael. It's a sad story all he wanted to do was protect his son, which is honorable. I don't agree with how he did it, but the reasons are good ones. The more I see of this, the more I'm beginning to think that The Others are going to end up being good guys in the end with Widmore being the big bad. Which would be cool. However, I expect there to be some type of turn around though. There always are. Anyway this just provides much needed backstory, but otherwise we didn't gain much new information.

And now for probably the most interesting part of the episode... Exit Danielle Rousseau. She was a great character who, like Desmond always made every scene better just by her presence. She was the source of the first great mystery on the Island and despite at times feeling like a plot device, she was a great character wonderfully acted by the fantastic Mira Furlan. She will be missed. It does suck to be Alex though. Her boyfriend and her mother killed in one fell swoop.

One question... is in possible that Naomi is the only character that's had more of a role after her death than before?

I'd say that honor goes to Christian, as the character was dead before the show even started, and yet the actor has made a number of significant appearances.

The runner-up, IMO, is Ethan. There's another dude who managed a fair amount of appearances after being shot in season one.

Ah. Good call. You could probably also mention Ed Mars. Spoke too soon without thinking. She just seems different than the other characters mentioned.

Well, since this thread was getting few responses, I decided to just go through to the end. Well here I go. Just about to start "The End." This is certainly a bittersweet moment. Here I go...
