I miss Stargate

I still have the entire Stargate series to watch. I have only watched the first few episodes of the original show. Looking forward to getting immersed into it one day.

Like a lot of shows, season 1 of SG1 probably started off kinda weak but it also showed some promise and did some nice world-building that pays off later. The season 1 finale really shows why the show would be special. Season 2 and 3 are really good then after that, SG1 was really great. SG1 had some great standalone episodes but I think where it really shined was in the episodes that are central to the season arc. SG1 really shined in the big 2 part episodes and in the season finales.

Yes, series 1 was definitely a bit iffy for SG1. It did have it's moments though but was kind of like TNG series 1!

I guess they could do a Picard-style "one last adventure" thing with RDA if they really wanted, tying into any prior episode that needs HIM to be the one to step in and fix whatever's gone wrong.

Also nobody mentioned Stargate: Origins. It was fan film levels of cheap (rented Stargate prop from a fan, one room used for a whole pyramid) but a fun prequel and worth a rent on Amazon if you like low budget echoes of great stuff.

I love O'Neill's speech in the finale of season 1.
Star Trek had a Quote book, great quotes from the series and movies. I wish that Stargate had such a book

I think that would be a mistake. Picard is a legendary character and Patrick Stewart still looks good. Frankly, the O'Neill character went downhill when he got promoted to Brigadier General. RDA started phoning it in. Bringing the character back now would be pointless IMO. And sadly, RDA is not in good shape. It would be too sad seeing him on screen now.

Yes, it sometimes takes a couple season for a show to get there. Round out the characters etc.

I think Stargate is right up my alley. I like episodic shows with an overlying story arc that doesn't come into play every single episode.

I just started and watched up to episode 5 last night. I learned Emancipation was considered one of the worst episodes of the series, but I think I liked that episode more than episode 5 (The first Commandment I think It was called) but so far the series isn't really earth shattering yet. It's ok, but I think I like the character chemistry more than the actual plot so far.

I really want to start a Stargate watch/rewatch thread, but it probably won't get the participation, which is why I'm hesitant.

Plus we need at least a line tossed in to give up some closure on Universe but I would kind of prefer we saw Eli because it would at least let us know he found away to survive at the end. I was thinking of characters I would go with.

It'd be a great chance to do that "Things have changed so much!" thing distant sequels love to do by just dropping in Buff Eli out of nowhere. David Blue got really fit after the show ended; IIRC, he'd started working out around the time he was cast, and had talked with the producers about how he was going to be changing his whole look over the next several years, so that was something they were accounting for in the structure of the show (really curious about what options they were considering for playing out the love triangle subplot taking that into account; a five-years-long, gender-flipped, sci-fi version of the stock plot where the nerdy girl takes off her glasses and dates the captain of the football team because she's hot now feels kind of gross, but also like it'd be of the time). I guess it would've ended up with them knowingly doing the thing that happened on SG-1 where Michael Shanks was cast as the Team Nerd, but by the second half of the series run, he was almost as muscular as Teal'c and had to stand in the back in cast photos to look smaller.

I don't know. Now is a good time for people to watch what with the world stuff going on. Plus when you get to season 3 I could even join because I started a rewatch awhile back. Plus people aren't rewatching still kind of like to read those kinds of threads to sort of re-experience the journey much like what happened with your Buffy thread.

Personally I like the idea that Jack O'Neil is now President of the United States.
Jack O'Neill has never shown any political inclinations and given how much running the SGC overwhelmed him when he was promoted, I doubt he'd be a proper fit for running the country.

And no jokes about how "being a proper fit" doesn't seem to be a requirement for being President of the US these days.

It's stargate Atlantis I miss, I wish we got a ending.

It did get an ending. You wanted to see the continued adventures on Earth?

I loved Universe.

It's way past the point where it could come back, but a new show could resolve it and also pick up some threads from the other shows.

The characters could easily come back--perhaps even the ship. Pick up with the survivors after having lived on a planet for 15 years or so.

Cryotube failure for those characters not available now ?

SG1 has so many great moments.

This scene might not be in the traditional top 10 greatest moments but I love it because it is from the episode where Gen. Hammond defies his superiors and goes off world to rescue SG1. It really illustrates the kind of leader that Gen Hammond was. He was fiercely loyal to his troops and also very courageous.

And this is probably one of the funniest scene in the entire series where they imagine the characters as puppets:

"I am the general. I want it to spin!" LOL

Yes, the ending was rushed. However, I found it pretty satisfying personally. The battle between the Super Wraith ship and Atlantis in Earth orbit was pretty epic. And Atlantis did finally come home. The final shot of Atlantis in the San Francisco Bay was very nice.

Maybe I will have to give it another go.

Atlantis was due a movie, but it never happened, and in that movie they were going to take atlantis back to Pegasus.. or in the end.. it didn't "End" as there was still a threat in the pegasus galaxy by the wraith.. so the wraith were not taken care of yet.... so there wasn't and "End" to the series.. :)

All this late unpleasentness reminds me of the Ori Plague.. need to rewatch those episodes..

I don't remember all the details but weren't the Wraith no longer a big threat anymore by the end of Atlantis? The main Queens were gone, wiped out by Michael and the Replicators. Michael was also defeated. The remaining Wraiths were either part of Todd's group or the super Wraith ship powered by ZPMs that headed to Earth and it was defeated. And Todd was a quasi-ally to Atlantis. So I don't think there were any big Wraith threats left anymore.
