Ok, so I have 13 binders of the famous (infamous, whichever you prefer) Star Trek Fact Files. Now someone please tell me how I can get rid of them without binning them! It just seems like a waste, I will just give them to someone for nothing! But where could I advertise such an offer?

I hope it doesn't make me look bad but to be honest that's what I ended up doing, all 13 binders in the bin as I couldn't think what to do with them far from keeping them for forever and not getting used. All they were doing was using up space and I thought as you can get the same infor on the net then why keep them and who would actually take them anyway when the info is available on the net.

I didn't like doing it as 13 binders worth of files amounts to just over £100 or so, maybe a geat deal more but I knew that I'd probably not get that kind of money for them anyway.

I've heard of these, but not seen them. what do they consist of?

Re: How can I get rid of my Fact Files without using the bin

I chucked them after about the first three folders.

I'm sorry.

I'm so sorry.

Re: How can I get rid of my Fact Files without using the bin

Are these those mail-order ship schematics that were available years ago in Europe?

I'll have them please please please! First dibs, I'm near Canary Warf how far do I have to drive to get them? I'll pay for postage if easier, but I am on holiday from Saturday for 2 weeks so postage probably better!

Re: How can I get rid of my Fact Files without using the bin

the fact files were a part-work magazine (a fortnightly issue containing various files on characters, equipment, ships, episodes etc) which ran for over 200 issues. costing £2 a time that's a shit-load of money. when i quit, VGR was airing S7 and ENT was looming as well as NEM.

Re: How can I get rid of my Fact Files without using the bin

Alas, I collected them all, all sodding 300+ issues. The complete collection was about 18 folders. 18 folders of shite

Well most of it anyway, since they finished in late 2002 i've thrown away a lot of the stuff I don't give a shit about, and now have about 9 folders worth.
The A-Z is very useful, as it goes right up to ENT Season 1, and some of the diagrams and stuff are very nice to look at. But yes a lot of it is just pure waffle.

I always wondered what the offices of where it was made must have been like. Did they all just sit there watching the same episode again and again with a notepad to get all the intimate details down?

Hmmmm, interesting. Well, if you want them then they are yours. I live in Leeds, or at least near Leeds. Postage would probably cost you a small fortune as they are big and heavy! Get back to me.

Re: How can I get rid of my Fact Files without using the bin

I collected them up to 200 I think; I only really liked the ships/technology section, they're currently boxed away in my attic never to see the light of day again!

Re: How can I get rid of my Fact Files without using the bin

It looks like complete sets are going for $500 on Ebay.

Re: How can I get rid of my Fact Files without using the bin

The Fact Files were translated into German and Italian too, I saw them at every news-stand in the early 2000s.
I collected two binders full of those files, but then I stopped. I think that the Italian version, which I collected, did not sell that well.

Re: How can I get rid of my Fact Files without using the bin

sooner or later I too have to decide what to do with my (German language) collection. Currently it is still stored at my parents, but they are moving out and won't have the space in their new location. I have only 5 folders or so, wasted money and nothing worth because of the small collection ...

Crikey - I've got a complete set back in England, and it would be one way of avoiding having to ship it here...

I have been doing the same thing but luckily we have recycle bins here in Glasgow, I'm down to 3 folder left, and good riddence i might add.

Re: How can I get rid of my Fact Files without using the bin

The Fact Files are still crammed onto a shelf in my study room. They irritate me every time I look at them because we have every issue except the final one. They are an utter waste of time, money and effort in my opinion. Oh, well. One day I'm sure they will find themselves sent to the recycling.

Re: How can I get rid of my Fact Files without using the bin

It's crazy how we know now what a waste of cash they are but at the time collected hundreds of issues! Damn my adolescent Star Trek obsession!
